Bonjour! This is Anthony, French chef at Pastreez, a French bakery where you can buy macarons online.
Valentine’s Day is coming… let’s look at some French inspired gifts: from chocolates, macarons, from turntables to golden roses, I have got you covered.
Take a look and impress your francophile sweetheart with something special this year!
My first idea is totally free…
A French sweet name for your sweetheart
What about showing your romantic side and surprising your sweetheart with a French love nickname this Valentine’s day? For both men and women, you could use:
- Mon amour – my love
- Mon ange – my angel
- Mon trésor – my treasure
- Mon coeur – my heart
Follow this link for more French love nicknames with audio recordings.
If you’d like to express your love in French, you could say :
- Je t’aime (using a very enunciated French pronunciation)
- or je t’aime (using modern French pronunciation)
or maybe you’re not quite there and would like to use a more nuanced expression… Then check out Camille’s article: 70 words to say I love you in French.
Now, here are my “tangible” French Valentine’s gift ideas.
For music lovers: versatile turntable
A turntable is an amazing Valentine’s day gift for music lovers.
Go for a classic French design, such as one by Elipson or Pro-Ject. This way your loved one can listen to their favorite records in style. Vinyl record players are affordable these days, and it’s fun to shop for them.
What I love about it is the “old school” look in the living room. That “humming” noise in the background is what makes it so authentic. Nothing beats an old Jazz vinyl played on a turntable.
Chocolate truffles
Do you know what a chocolate truffle is? To put it short, it is a round piece of chocolate made by combining cocoa and cream. It is then rolled in a coating, such as cocoa powder or chopped nuts, to give it a unique texture and flavor.
Chocolate truffles are very popular in France. It’s a no-brainer!
I personally enjoy these with a hot cup of green tea on a regular Sunday afternoon!
Give an easy French audiobook
Maybe your partner is studying French, or enjoyed speaking French at one time. You could rekindle his/her love for the language with an easy French audio novel.
I love the fact that French Today audio covers both traditional and modern French enunciation. And their app is so practical: you can play/read the audiobooks at home on your desktop, or on the go, while walking your dog, at the gym, in your car… You can hide the English translation, change the size of the font, switch between the audio speeds… It’s really user friendly!
An audio novel for all levels. Explore Paris with modern, lively and realistic dialogues
A Golden rose
Red roses are a classic. But you’re here to find fun ideas…
Have you heard of golden roses? It’s a 24 carat-covered rose that comes with a personalized base. You can even add your lover’s name to it for a few extra bucks.
As a good Parisian, I love romantic gifts. And a twist on the classic rose might surprise your partner. Mine loved it!
French apron
If your lover enjoys cooking, a French-themed apron is a fun idea. Looking like a pro in your kitchen makes the recipe more legit!
Check out French Today’s apron design: my personal favorite is the one saying “I don’t give a crêpe”… and the expression on Claude the dog’s face!
I love it!
heart shaped cast iron from Le Creuset
With the same idea, I was able to find cast iron in the shape of a heart. Perfect to make a nice dinner on the 14th and show your partner that you care.
The brand is “Le Creuset”. It’s a little pricey but it’s worth it. I have a few Le Creuset items and they lasted over 10 years easily!
PS: I also found a great hand-carved heart serving spoon that might go well as a gift set.
I couldn’t resist but to tell you about our Valentine’s day macarons this year.
In 2023, we even added heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies to the menu!
The macarons are limited edition flavors: Heart Chocolate, Ruby Strawberry & Red Velvet Cheesecake. Some of the macarons even have chocolate toppings.
For the cookies, it’s a brand new release. After years of making macarons, we decided to take our exciting journey to the next level.
The chocolate chip cookie flavors are Heart Raspberry, Heart Chocolate with almond chunks, and classic chocolate chip cookies.
Order Now and select “Valentine’s day reservation” at checkout. We’ll ship fresh accordingly in the entire United States!
Instant cameras are back!
Do you remember Polaroids and instant cameras back then? I have to say I’m a bit nostalgic about these.
An instant camera is a camera that you can take out of your pocket and print a picture in just minutes.
Nowadays where everything is digital, instant cameras are a fun, cool, and unique gift idea for Valentine’s day.
You can easily find one under $100, so why not give it a try? It’s the perfect way to capture special moments and keep them forever!
Gifts for pet lovers
If your partner is a pet lover, you can find amazing gifts for them this Valentine’s day.
From personalized bowls to custom pet T-shirts, the options are endless. My favorite one is a custom pet portrait phone case.
West & Willow is a great website to order from. They will ask you to upload your pet picture and select your phone (only iPhone & Samsung though).
Then, the photo is edited manually into a portrait by a real artist. I have to say the result looks amazing.
For pet lovers, I found something cool: A custom pet portrait pillow! If your dog or cat is small enough, you can even get a full-size pillow.
That’s it! I hope this Valentine’s day gift guide helped you to choose your option this year.
A bientôt pour de prochaines aventures!
