Our New Puppy – French Story & Translation

1 – Our New French Puppy

Pour l’anniversaire de Benjamin, j’ai décidé de lui faire un cadeau qu’il souhaitait depuis un bon moment déjà :
Un chien !

For Benjamin’s birthday, I decided to give him a present he had wanted for a long time already: a dog!

Mais attention, pas n’importe quel chien ! Benjamin rêvait d’avoir un Akita Inu. C’est un très beau chien japonais. Peut-être avez-vous vu le film Hatchi ? C’est un très beau film sur l’histoire de cette race. Alors j’ai cherché et cherché encore un éleveur proche de nous.

But, not just any dog! Benjamin dreamed of having an Akita Inu. It’s a gorgeous Japanese dog. Maybe you’ve seen the movie Hatchi? It’s a very beautiful movie about this breed’s history. So I searched and searched again for a breeder near us.

2 – Calling the Puppy Breeder

Après avoir trouvé une annonce sur internet, j’ai téléphoné :

– « Bonjour, excusez-moi de vous déranger, j’ai vu votre annonce sur internet et je voulais savoir s’il vous restait un chiot de disponible ? »
– « Il m’en reste effectivement un ! C’est un mâle et il est roux et blanc ! »
– « Super ! Serait-il possible de venir le voir ? »
– « Bien sûr ! »

After finding an ad on the internet, I called:

– “Hello, excuse me for disturbing you, I saw your ad on the internet and I wanted to know if you still had a puppy available?”
– “I still have one left! It’s a male and he is red and white!”
– “Great! Would it be possible to come to see him?”
– “Of course!”

Nous avons alors pris un rendez-vous afin que Benjamin puisse voir son futur petit chiot !

Then, we made an appointment so that Benjamin could see his future puppy!

3 – Meeting our Puppy

Le jour-J, nous sommes allés ensemble, Benjamin et moi, voir une première fois le bébé afin de prendre notre décision finale. Mais il n’a pas fallu longtemps pour qu’on tombe amoureux de sa jolie petite frimousse ! Il a couru vers nous et a tout de suite commencé à jouer avec nous ! Alors c’était décidé ! Nous le prenions !

On that said day, we went together, Benjamin and I, to see the baby for the first time in order to make our final decision. But it didn’t take long to fall in love with his pretty little face! He ran towards us and immediately started playing with us! It was decided! We were going to adopt it!

4 – Shopping for our Puppy

Mais nous n’avions rien pour l’accueillir ! Alors une sortie shopping s’imposait !

But we had nothing to welcome him! So a shopping spree was needed!

Et il a été gâté ce petit ! Nous n’avons pas fait les choses à moitié !

And he was spoiled this little one! We didn’t do things halfway!

Nous lui avons acheté une carpette, un tapis, une laisse, et une grande quantité de jouets. Nous voulions être sûrs qu’il ne s’en prenne pas à nos meubles ahah ! C’est bien connu, les bébés n’en font qu’à leur tête !

We bought him a rug, a carpet, a leash, and a lot of toys. We wanted to make sure he didn’t chew our furniture ahah! It’s well known, babies have a mind of their own!

5 – Naming our French Puppy

Mais nous nous sommes rendu compte qu’il nous manquait une chose essentielle ! Une chose qui ne se trouve pas dans un magasin. Un nom !

But we realized that we were missing an essential thing! A thing that you can’t get in a store. A name!

Hé oui, nous n’avions pas pensé au nom du chiot ! Et ça a été très difficile de se décider ! Benjamin et moi n’étions pas d’accord sur tout ! Et pour ajouter un peu de difficulté, l’année 2018 est l’année des O ! Il fallait donc choisir un nom qui commence par un O.

Yeah, we didn’t think about a name for the puppy! And it was very difficult to decide! Benjamin and I didn’t agree on everything! And to add a little difficulty, 2018 is the year of O! So we had to choose a name that starts with an O [note, in France, in order to define pure breed dogs and obtain an official pedigree, the names have to follow a convention and start with a specific letter each year – if your dog is not pure breed or if you don’t care about obtaining a pedigree, then you are free to name your dog how you wish…] And here is a link to French pet names

Benjamin souhaitait absolument que notre chiot ait un nom japonais dans la mesure où il s’agit d’un chien japonais.

Benjamin absolutely wanted our puppy to have a Japanese name as it’s a Japanese dog.

Alors il a proposé le nom Ôkami qui signifie loup en japonais. Et c’était décidé !

So he suggested the name Ôkami which means wolf in Japanese. And it was decided!

Je vous présente donc Ôkami : le nouveau venu ! Si vous venez en immersion de français chez moi, vous le rencontrerez. Vous allez voir, il est trop mignon !
