I really love this French audio magazine! I’m learning a lot of new vocabulary through it, and my listening comprehension is definitely improving!
This is how I use it:
I listen first to the article in modern French at full speed. I listen to the whole thing, and then go back and listen to it paragraph by paragraph. If there is any word at all that I’m not sure of, I double check the transcript in French. Sometimes I also need to check the English translations. Then I go back and listen to that paragraph again in French.
When I’m finished, I listen to the whole thing again in French to make sure that I can still follow every word. And usually, I can! I’ve found that I am picking up a really diverse vocabulary, and it’s sticking!
I usually listen at the gym, and just keep it on repeat. I also like to revisit the articles later after I’ve learned them to review. I’m always amazed at how much I am understanding and remembering !
And best of all, I discovered that I’m understanding better now if I play a French YouTube video! The other day, I played a video without really giving it my full attention. I was shocked to realize I understood EVERYTHING they said! Whooo hoooo!!!

If you love French Culture or French History then you will love this Magazine. I love history so I am so glad that I have this subscription. It is great to have French material spoken at two speeds from a real French person with excellent communication skills.

I am enjoying the magazines and the topics you’ve chosen so far. The story on Nantes brought back happy memories of our few days there. With this particular article, though, I didn’t think there was much difference between the enunciated and modern French speeds in the audio.

Bonjour Catherine. Thank you for your review. There was a glitch when we launched the Nantes article, which had some issues with the audio. If you try it now, you’ll hear a big difference between the 2 versions. Cheers. Olivier – French Today

I have been very impressed with, not only the magazine subscription, but the site overall! I have tried other language sites and this one is my preference. The nature of the articles and short stories make learning French easy and more natural. I am a fan and extremely satisfied with this decision!
Also, the owners are super responsive and helpful – so rare in this world today:)

I’m really enjoying my subscription to the monthly audiomagazine. The articles are short enough that it doesn’t feel like a big time commitment to listen to one or even all of them (I tend to procrastinate if I feel that way); they are interesting and cover things about France that are not so well known; and of course they are read by Camille herself with her impeccable diction. The more rapid modern French version suits my comprehension level but is challenging enough that I need a little help on occasion from the accompanying text in French, and there is always the English translation for unfamiliar vocabulary. All of this is well designed to enhance learning. Very well conceived and executed. Félicitations!

It’s not all about learning but also about getting outside and getting active. Anyone who has followed Camille’s newsletters knows that she (and Olivier and Layla) are a family that likes a bit of outdoor adventure. Through Camille and her contributing writers, we have already been on a forest ropes course, on a farm with the Norman cows (who make that delicious Camembert), and had a look at the sailing scene. Paragliding and spelunking can’t be far behind. And all of it captured in lovely photographs.
But it’s not ~all~ about fun, it’s just that the fun makes the medicine go down! As always with French Today, everything is presented in French with careful and faithful English translations. And, again as always, we can choose to listen to a slowed-down, carefully enunciated version of the audio, or we can listen to realistic, modern French. And we can choose to read and listen online or with the excellent French Today app that is feature-rich and keeps all our material together on our desktops, laptops, or phones.
And one more thing that is important to me these days, it is very affordable. Over the last twenty years, I have subscribed to at least three French-learning magazines in hardcopy, each costing about thirty dollars per month. I was recently faced with the necessity to do some radical slimming down of my bookshelves and realized that I had spent several thousand dollars on this stuff, a lot of it missing the mark in one way or another. Honestly, I felt a bit guilty that I had spent so much money in pursuit of French and yet spent so little with French Today, which has had the overwhelming majority of my attention. The thing is, Camille and Olivier make their material available at such a low cost and, especially, this latest offering. Heck, if you spend time on the website, you will see that there is a vast amount of it given away absolutely free. I was more than pleased to make the very modest commitment (cancellable at any time, of course) to their audio magazine. I am thrilled to have it.

I recently started taking the monthly audio magazine from French Today. It is a great compliment to their regular audio books, containing a wide variety of different articles and subjects each month. I am looking forward to the next month’s edition already!
