Yesterday, with my husband Olivier, our daughter Leyla and two of her friends, Yann and Paol, we spent an afternoon at the adventure park in Morieux, not far from Paimpol, in Brittany. “Accrobranche” is a sporty outdoor activity that consists of moving from tree to tree in a specially arranged forest with bridges, balance obstacles, zip lines… Here is how it went!

For a long time, we’ve wanted to do this activity with Leyla’s friends who are big climbing fans, and as the weather was forecast to be very good a few days before – special mention for the verb “forecast”, you’ll see why later – we sent out the invitations!

On D-Day, Leyla’s friends joined us at our house, then we hit the road. We arrived around 1:30 P.M., and unfortunately… It was already raining pretty hard! In fact, as is often the case, the weather forecast was completely wrong and it rained all day. So we went to take shelter to eat our sandwiches while drying off. We were full and ready for the adventure at 2 P.M.

We started by putting on the equipment with the help of the instructor, named Louis. At the time of the briefing, we (re)learned the usefulness of each element of the harness: the two carabiners to be sure to always be well attached and secure, the pulley to be used only on the zip lines… Then we did the initiation, which we passed with ease because it was not the first time that we had done a park of this kind.

Ok, we’ve come to the long-awaited moment: the climbing! We start by warming up with a short course, not very high up, not very complicated, but already very nice! We twist through the small obstacles, tiny for us because the course is accessible to children over 7 years old, laughing and having a good time.

Incidentally, when finishing this particular course, we realized that it was very warm, despite the regular rain showers! It was perhaps linked to the fact that we were really starting to feel the burn ( literally: spend ourselves).

We followed up this course directly with another one, and then another one, gradually more and more complex, and I noted with pleasure that I managed to follow the pace of Leyla and her friends – I was a little anxious of being completely behind, even possibly getting stuck on certain obstacles.

L’horreur totale !

There is also another reason why we went to this specific park: Leyla really wanted to do the “Crazy Jump”, which is a 17-meter high freefall jump! That’s crazy ! Imagine a tall wooden tower. You are attached to a mechanism that will of course slow down the fall. Well, this is what you understand… But between understanding and internalizing the information… Afterwards, you walk to the edge, you turn to have your back to the void. And then, you fall back… Horrific!

Arrrrgggg ! Et puis c’était à mon tour. J’ai cru que je n’allais pas y arriver… Et puis je me suis lancée. C’est le cas de le dire ! Et c’était super !

When the time came for Leyla and her friends to do it, I don’t know what got into me, and I decided to join them! I, who had a terrible fear of heights a few years ago… Leyla went first: seeing your daughter jump into the void… Arrrggg! And then it was my turn. I thought I wasn’t going to make it… And then I let go. Literally! And it was great!

After that shot of adrenaline, I felt in tip-top shape, and we decided to switch to the longest zip lines in Bretagne: 351 meters! It was exhilarating!

Then, slowly but surely, Olivier and I started to tire: the youngsters did two more runs, but we chose to stay dry, have a little coffee and enjoy the calm of this small forest.

When the kids finished their course – the most complicated one in the park – we hit the road to go back to Paimpol.

We were all very tired, proud of our physical abilities and having had a great day full of fun!

A day to re-experience, and an activity that I highly recommend to you all. There are tree climbing parks all over France, and they will allow you to spend a stimulating, different and very fun afternoon, especially for people who enjoy sports activities!
