Chaque année, Olivier et moi dégustions nos premières bouteilles de Beaujolais Nouveau à Thanksgiving - et c'était bien sûr toujours l'occasion de grandes analyses et discussions sur la qualité du vin de cette année-là. Il faut dire que la qualité des Beaujolais Nouveaux varie fortement d'année en année: certaines années sont bonnes, d'autres terribles...

The Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes in the Beaujolais region. While most red wines improve with age, Beaujolais Nouveau is to be drunk young, it is supposed to be drunk within a year.
Its release is regulated: the Beaujolais Nouveau floods the market from 0:01 on the third Thursday of November, just weeks after the wine grapes were harvested. Fermentation is so short that wine is often very fruity and light.
Nearly half of the 70 million bottles are exported abroad, mainly to Japan, Germany and the United States. In the United States, the Duboeuf brand is famous for this wine. Each year, Olivier and I sipped our first bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau at Thanksgiving - and it was of course always an occasion for great analysis and discussion on the quality of wine that year. One must say that the quality of the Beaujolais Nouveau varies greatly from year to year: some years are good, some terrible...
