After trying other services (Rosetta Stone, Duolingo) I can honestly say that the French Today series has been the most useful approach. My primary goal is to speak and understand French (vs. writing) and I have benefitted from the longer spoken sequences that FT provides right from the very first lesson. It is this emphasis, coupled with the ability to change the speed of the playback (enuciated/normal/modern) and the ability to easily move forwards/backwards in small increments, that have allowed me to make rapid progress without the frustration that I’ve experienced in other platforms.

I look forward to exploring other audiobooks from French Today!

I was very much surprised how clear the app is, never seen anything similar before! In my opinion lots of efforts and sincerity has been added to it. Audiobooks are worth every penny.

French Today is perfect. Each story is recorded in three speeds. This is helping me tremendously learn to understand spoken French, starting with the slow speed. I then can understand French at the normal and street level speeds. Also, this program is a good review for me and gives me the grammatical foundations that I never got with other programs. I have and am still using other French programs, along with French Today. The other two programs do not speak slowly enough for me, and did not explain how and when to use certain verbs and tenses.

Your audiobooks have helped me so much. Spoken French is so much harder and different than written French. I understand more and hopefully I am easier for French speakers to understand. Thank you.

The French Today audio books and tutorials are simply superb. Without hesitation I would recommend anyone who wants to speak French to use these. As far as I am aware the use of three different speeds of speech are unique and are so helpful in advancing your understanding of the nuances and peculiarities of actually speaking French.

French Today is an excellent way to learn French.
French Today provides the foundation for a true understanding of spoken and listening French along with Study Guides for vocabulary and grammar. Although I have using experience from other English-French apps… French Today is by far the best structured and valuable resource. Although this review is for À Moi Paris-Beginner (L1 +L2) I have purchased all the À Moi Paris Series plus most of the supplementary courses.

French Today is how French should be taught…

Thank you Oliver and Camille !!!

I really appreciate that the pieces of the program all work together. It’s very helpful that you can leave the English translation off or turn it on, that the words are recorded at different speeds, and the guides are a good complement. It’s not JUST an audiobook! Also, having studied French before in school, I really like the way this helps me learn the way real French people might speak to each other. There is, of course, grammar involved, but it doesn’t overshadow simply learning to communicate.

I’m enjoying learning French using these audiobooks. I agree with Camille that learning through listening and reciting aloud is so important for retaining a new language, especially a language like French where the pronunciation is not obvious from the written form. I find the audiobooks to be thoughtfully structured to allow knowledge building without overwhelming me and easy to navigate so that I can go back and review past chapters easily.

For context, English is my second (but now everyday) language and I know some German and Spanish via the more traditional classroom instruction. Currently, this learning method fits my lifestyle and is effective so far. I’m happy that I found French Today.!

I took French in college and always struggled with pronunciation. French Today has been an amazing resource for learning how French is actually spoken.

I am retired and live in Nottingham, in the East Midlands of England. I am 69 years old and the only French language studies I have done before is a couple of years at grammar school from 1963-1965 and that’s so long ago, I remember very, very little of it.
I wanted to learn French to a good level whereby I could (without embarassment) converse with French people fluently once we can travel again, whilst also getting to grips with the grammar, rules and idioms which underly the language. I looked on line for courses and books and was immediately taken by frenchtoday’s outstanding approach to teaching and communication. It has the advantage of being both comprehensive and accessible to aspiring students of all levels. It’s the perfect all-encompassing French course you can take at your own pace in the comfort of your own home! On top of that, unlike a classroom course, you can revisit it and revise it as many times as you want. The choice of being able to listen to spoken french at different speeds, in conjunction with the accompanying grammar and excercises provide a brilliant way of teaching the language. It really connects written French to everyday spoken French as you progress through the course.
But I should also add – and this is important – that although doing the A Moi Paris course is demanding, it is also a lot of fun at the same time. I’m still working through level 1 but was so impressed I invested in the whole A Moi Paris series so I can continuously improve.
So, I think by what I’ve said above, you won’t be surprised when I say that I’d highly recommend these audio books and courses to anyone wishing to learn this language.
