I am retired now and spending part of the summer in France this year and wanted to bridge my modest academic knowledge of the language with how it is actually spoken including practice with common situations. The Modern French Audio Phrasebook is giving me practice with casual communications in “native speak” rather than my pedantic past book learning. It also is giving me great tips on everyday situations that I hope will increase my confidence and maximize my precious time in France.
Also, the Mastering French Numbers audio book has corrected my numerical listening skills problem. In the past I’ve never been able to understand simple money transactions in the heat of the moment and had to ask people to repeat slowly or in English. The drills in this book were incredibly helpful and easy to use for beginners or for someone like me looking to improve listening and speaking in native situations. Having just started the beginner’s audio book and being on a direct ferry route to Brittany for a long weekend, I was hoping the phrase book would have more short phrases that you would most likely need when visiting for a weekend, such as ordering a glass of wine or a beer, ordering a sandwich etc. When you’re a beginner it’s difficult to remember the long full sentences, as you feel slightly nervous when attempting to speak a new language.
This audio book seems directed at the more competent French language student.

Thank you for this outstanding audiobook. I found so many perfect conversation starters and examples of phrases I will need for my upcoming trip to Paris. I always like to try speaking French when I visit there, but I get tongue-tied when I start to create my own sentences. The examples and cultural tips in this module give me added confidence, especially since I have been able to repeat Camille’s statements many times and feel my pronunciation will likely to be close enough that the person I am talking to in Paris will understand me.

I stumbled across the French Today website by accident whilst browsing other French sites on the internet and I have never looked back.
