Welcome to my Immersion Homestay!
Embark on a unique journey with me, a blend of intensive learning and pure vacation bliss. As one of my students coined it, think of this as your “studycation.” We’ll dive into language and culture, all while enjoying the stunning surroundings and relaxing on the beach or in your cozy private suite.
During your stay, I’ll be your French teacher, host, chef, language buddy, and guide to everyday life. It’s not just about learning; it’s about experiencing life through my eyes.
Let’s dive into some frequently asked questions:
Immersion in Paimpol, Tenerife, or… anywhere!
I host French immersion stays in my authentic hometown of Paimpol, Brittany, from April to November. Picture yourself in this charming coastal town with its breathtaking harbor, quaint streets, and stunning coastal walks. Mornings are for French lessons, and afternoons are spent exploring local markets, picturesque landscapes, and historic sites, all while immersing yourself in the French language and culture.
When winter arrives, I take off to sunny Tenerife, Canary Islands. While Tenerife is a Spanish-speaking island, you’ll be in full French immersion with me – and since I also speak Spanish, I get you covered! Picture this: sunny days spent exploring volcanic landscapes, hiking through a primal forest, and enjoying beautiful beaches, all while practicing your French in a relaxed, fun way.
If you can’t make it to Paimpol or Tenerife, I’m happy to meet you elsewhere in France or abroad. Whether on a business trip, enjoying a cruise, or in your hometown, I can bring the immersion experience to you!
Feel free to contact me for more details.
For now, let me answer some frequently asked questions.

What is included?
Although an immersion experience with me is fully customisable, here’s what a typical stay includes:
- A cozy private suite for 6 nights
- A personal bathroom and toilet on the same floor as your bedroom
- Convenient pickup and drop-off (Paimpol train station or Tenerife South Airport) and transportation during your stay
- 10 hours of tailored French instruction
- Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, prepared with fresh, local ingredients
- Four exciting excursions to explore the beauty or your surroundings
Of course, I can always adjust the experience to suit your preferences and goals: just let me know what works best for you!
How many people will be In class with me?
If you’re traveling alone, you’ll have personalized attention as my sole student, allowing me to tailor the course exclusively to your needs and goals.
For couples, families, or small groups of friends traveling together:
- You can opt for joint lessons if everyone has the same French proficiency level.
- Alternatively, you can share the 10 hours of tuition among yourselves.
Please note, I’m the only instructor available, so individualized attention is my priority!
Typical day outline
It’s challenging to outline a typical day because each immersion experience is personalized based on your preferences, the weather and… unique opportunities! However, there’s a rhythm to our days.
We’ll convene for breakfast around 9:30 AM, although you can access your breakfast earlier if desired.
After breakfast, we typically engage in formal study for about two hours, or if you prefer a more hands-on approach, we can embark on an excursion or adventure instead. Let me know your preference, and we’ll tailor the day to suit your learning style and interests!
Afterward, we’ll enjoy lunch together in a relaxed environment conducive to practicing French.
Post-lunch, there’s a leisurely break. Many of my students appreciate a nap after an intensive language session, or you might use this time to complete homework, connect with friends, or take a stroll. Meanwhile, I often work on writing my audiobooks or audio library articles for French Today.
In the afternoon, we’ll regroup for an outing – perhaps a sightseeing excursion with me or a local guide or a leisurely walk along the beach with an aperitif.
Dinner preparation begins around 7 PM, although we can adjust the timing to suit your preference. We’ll dine together, possibly joined by a friend, and around 9 PM, I’ll retire to my own quarters.
I hope this description piques your interest and gives you a glimpse into what to expect during your stay with me. Please let me know if you have any questions or specific requests!

The standard rate for a 6 night solo homestay in 2026 is €8,400 plus a 10% French TVA/VAT.
If you’d like to come with friends or family members:
- Additional person: €3,600 plus VAT
- Third person: €2,800 plus VAT

Please contact me for rates regarding additional family members or guests.
In Paimpol a small tourist tax (taxe de séjour) of 0.88 Euros per person per night will also apply (2025 prices).
Non-Smoking Policy
My immersion stays are strictly non-smoking. As I am allergic to smoke, I cannot welcome students who smoke, even outdoors. Thank you for your understanding.
Do all stays run from weekend to weekend?
Your typical stay with me begins on a Sunday after 2 PM and concludes on a Saturday before 2 PM. However, if these dates don’t align with your plans or mine, we can be flexible and make adjustments.
Do you offer courses at all levels?
I’ll tailor the immersion to your French proficiency, goals, and comfort level:
- Fluent speakers can enjoy a full immersion in French, with unscripted conversations conducted entirely in French. I will try to introduce them to other French speakers so they can sample different ways of speaking and different accents.
- Intermediate learners will benefit from clear English explanations of French grammar and vocabulary, gradually shifting toward more unscripted French conversation, with breaks in English when needed.
- Beginners will have the chance to practice what they learn in class with scripted conversations, while still enjoying their vacation. Much of the day will be conducted in English to ensure comfort and comprehension.
- With true beginners, I focus on French pronunciation, basic sentence structure, and polite expressions during our lessons. They’ll have the chance to try out their new skills in the shops of Paimpol, while the rest of the day is spent speaking English to keep the experience enjoyable.
Let’s customize your experience to make your French immersion both effective and relaxed!
What if I come with someone?
Feel free to bring along a friend, partner, older kids (16+), or a couple of friends: my Paimpol house can accommodate everyone comfortably – there are three guestrooms.
While you’re in lessons, non-students will have plenty to keep them entertained, from enjoying the beach and coastal paths to exploring downtown Paimpol, to relaxing or working at home using the reliable Wi-Fi.
Outside of lessons, everyone is welcome to join in cooking, sharing meals, and going on excursions together. We can choose whether to continue in French or switch to English based on your preference. After a day of speaking French, taking a break in English can be refreshing!
Do You Host Senior Students?
I warmly welcome students of all ages: my oldest immersion guest so far was 88 years old and drove himself all the way from England! He was an advanced French speaker, was fit, athletic and very active we had a wonderful time.
That said, a French immersion stay can be quite intensive, especially for beginner or intermediate learners. There’s a fair amount of memorization, daily practice, and some homework involved, so it’s best to come prepared for a dynamic and mentally engaging experience.
Level of Fitness
To make the most of your immersion, it’s important that you enjoy being active outdoors. This is not a city-based experience, but one rooted in the beauty of the Breton countryside and coastline. You should be comfortable walking for at least an hour, sometimes on rough country paths with stones and roots, through small villages with uneven cobblestone streets, or across sandy beaches. I also try to swim every day, so when the sun is out, afternoons and picnics on the beach naturally become part of the rhythm of life here. A reasonable level of stamina and mobility will ensure you can fully embrace these moments and enjoy the simple, authentic pleasures of Brittany.
Do you host children?
I do not provide instruction or accommodations for younger children. However, teenagers aged sixteen and older are welcome to participate, as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Due to the nature of my program, it is important that teenagers are mature and self-motivated, as the curriculum is designed for adult learners.
Can I bring my dog?
Meet Vinky, my Havanese Bichon! He’s an absolute sweetheart: affectionate, always up for a walk or a game, but just as content snoozing in his basket, on the rug, or curled up on my lap. This breed is hypoallergenic, very friendly, and doesn’t bark. That said, it’s unlikely I’d be able to accommodate your dog during your stay unless you’re certain they’d be a perfect match for Vinky, my house and lifestyle.

What will I do outside lesson/ excursion time?
You can use your free time to study, do your homework, watch TV, take a leisurely stroll, relax on the beach or in the living room, or explore the town with its shops, cafes, bars, restaurants… all within walking distance!
The choice is yours! You’ll have the freedom to decide how you want to spend your time. While I’ll invite you to join me for shopping, swimming, and other activities whenever possible, I also value my “me” time.
What can I do in the evenings?
Evenings are for shared experiences and relaxation. We’ll cook and dine while chatting together, or if we had a large lunch, we may enjoy finger food and a drink at sunset… Depending on availability, we might even gather with my friends for a delightful evening.
After a full day of French practice, activities, and maybe some homework, you might find yourself ready for an early night’s sleep!
Cooking experience
If you’re interested, we can share all our meals during your stay. We might venture out to a charming crêperie for a savory galette, a classic Breton dish, or visit a seafood shack for oysters or mussels (when in season).
Lunch at home typically consists of fresh salads featuring locally-grown produce, or an assortment of charcuteries and cheese, also perfect for enjoying a picturesque picnic in a stunning setting.
For dinner, I often grill chicken or fish accompanied by fresh vegetables, rice, or pasta, based on your preferences.
You are welcome to help me in the kitchen: cooking together is a great way to practice your French! You’re also welcome to just unwind and recharge after your studies – you’ve earned it!
You’ll have your own fridge stocked with goodies, so feel free to help yourself at any time. I understand that jetlag can leave you hungry at odd hours – you won’t go hungry with me!
What if I have special dietary needs or allergies?
I’ll do my best to accommodate dietary restrictions. A flexitarian diet is manageable, but veganism might be more challenging unless you’re willing to share your vegan cooking expertise – I’m open to learning!
Let me know your dietary restrictions, and I’ll tailor meals to suit your needs as much as possible.
Your immersion in PAIMPOL
I typically host immersion at my Paimpol house from April to November.

Your Accommodation
Upstairs, in the quietest part of the house, you’ll find your suite featuring a spacious queen bed (160 x 200 cm) with premium linens, plenty of pillows, ample storage space, a small desk equipped with a sound system, a TV for French TV and Netflix access, and a computer featuring all the French Today audiobooks and Audio library. Wifi is fast and reliable fiber.
On the same floor, you’ll enjoy your private shower/bath room and toilet, with plenty of towels available.
There are a couple of bedrooms upstairs with study areas so what about coming with your partner, a friend, a family member?
My bedroom is also upstairs but on the opposite side of the house, and I have my own private bathroom.
Please kindly remember that my home is not a hotel; it is a welcoming space where guests are treated like friends. During your stay, I do not provide cleaning services for your suite, and you will be responsible for your own laundry. Downstairs, I’m lucky to have both a washing machine and a dryer, which is still a rarity in France!
What’s the best way to travel to Paimpol?
Once you’re in Paimpol, I’ve got everything covered to ensure a memorable stay. However, as I’m not a travel agent, I can’t arrange your journey to Paimpol.
For most long-distance travelers, the route involves arriving in Paris, spending a few days there, then catching the TGV to Guingamp (part of the Paris-Brest line, departing from Paris Montparnasse station), followed by a connecting TER train to Paimpol.
Guingamp is a tiny train station, making the connection hassle-free. Even if your train was late, the TER typically waits for the TGV.
Please note that TGV bookings typically open around three months before travel dates.
Alternatively, consider flying into Rennes or Nantes international airports. Connect with a taxi to the train station, or rent a car there.
If you’re coming from across the Channel, taking a ferry to St Malo or Roscoff is also an option!
Do I need a car?
Your transportation options depend on your travel plans, desired activities, and level of independence during your stay.
Paimpol is a vibrant city, with shops and the beach just a ten-minute walk from my house, making it easy to walk everywhere once you’re here. Public transportation is also available.
I’m happy to pick you up from Paimpol’s train station and provide transportation for excursions using my Audi A3, which accommodates up to four people comfortably.
Please note, there are no car rental agencies in Paimpol. The nearest agency is Avis in Guingamp, open Monday to Saturday by prebooking only. If you arrive by train on a Sunday, arrangements must be made in advance for key collection at the SNCF station counter.
Alternatively, car rentals are available at Nantes or Rennes airports, with multiple options like Hertz, Avis, and Budget.
For foot passengers arriving via ferry in St Malo, refer to resources like the Expats France article titled “St Malo ferry port: your car rental options – Expats France” for rental information.
How is accessibility and is accommodating special needs possible?
Please be aware that my house in Paimpol features a steep flight of stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms, with part of it lacking a handrail.

Additionally, a significant part of my program involves outdoor activities like hiking on country paths, exploring creeks, and enjoying picnics on secluded beaches where we’ll sit on the sand. Due to these factors, my homestay is not be suitable for individuals with limited mobility or significant sight impairments.
If you have a disability or are planning surgery before your stay, please discuss it with me beforehand. Together, we can determine if this studycation experience aligns with your needs and preferences. Your comfort and safety are important, and I want to ensure that your stay is enjoyable and accessible. Let’s have a conversation to make the best arrangements for your visit.
What is the weather like?
Brittany’s climate is temperate oceanic, characterized by warmer summers and mild winters. Expect beautiful landscapes filled with flowers and lush greenery, although rain showers are part of the charm.
The peak tourist season spans from May to September, offering a pleasant climate for exploration. For more details on Brittany’s weather and climate, you can explore resources like http://www.climatestotravel.com/Climate/France/Brittany.
What temperature is the sea?
The sea temperature in Brittany can be refreshing, averaging around 18°C (65°F) in summer. Despite its coolness, the sea is exceptionally clear and picturesque. I swim daily and hope you’ll join me, whether in the water or strolling along the coastline while I swim, taking in the breathtaking views.
What do I need to bring?
To ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, here’s what you should consider bringing:
- Suitcase: Pack light! French cars have rather small trunks. Besides, if you travel by train, hauling a huge suitcase is not going to be fun nor practical!
- Laptop or Tablet: Bring yours if you’d like, however I can lend you an iMac with a qwerty keyboard.
- Clothing: Dress casually and comfortably. There is no need to be chic here. Pack comfortable walking shoes or sneakers for exploring. Bring a weatherproof jacket for rainy days, a down-jacket and a sweater for cooler evenings.
- Bathing suit: If you plan on joining me in the sea, don’t forget your bathing suit!
- Slippers: There’s a no-shoe policy upstairs, so please bring slippers for indoor use.
- Personal Items: While bedding, towels, liquid soap, shampoo, and a quality hairdryer are provided, feel free to bring any personal toiletries or specific items you prefer.
- Medication: Please ensure you bring all necessary medication with you. Many items that are available over the counter in your country (such as some antibiotics or painkillers) may require a prescription here in France.
What laundry facilities are there?
No need to worry about laundry: I have both a washing machine and a dryer available for your convenience.
What excursions are available?
During your stay, you’ll have the chance to enjoy some truly memorable excursions. Many of my students are eager to meet and speak with French locals, so I’ve partnered with a few friends and retired professional guides who love sharing their passion for Brittany. They’ll take you on personalized outings where you’ll explore the region’s rich history, stunning landscapes, and unique Breton culture. Best of all, they speak English, so they can offer support in English whenever needed. Here are some of the excursions available:
- Touring Paimpol’s charming town center, unique stores and picturesque harbor
- Exploring Le Château de la Roche Jagu and its captivating medieval gardens
- Visiting the medieval town of Tréguier and its stunning Cathedral
- Following in the footsteps of the WWII Resistance along the cliffs of Plouézec and Plouha
- Discovering the incredible “house between the rocks” in Plougrescant
- Joining me at Paimpol’s vibrant market and cooking up something special together
- Exploring the pink granite coast near Lannion, known for its unique rock formations
- Strolling the charming village of Pontrieux and his many art galleries
- Learning about exotic animals at the zoo in Trégomeur
- Taking a leisurely stroll along Paimpol’s scenic seashore and visiting the Abbaye de Beauport
If you’re interested and weather permits, we could take a full-day trip to the stunning island of Bréhat, known as “l’île aux fleurs” (the island of flowers).
For an unforgettable adventure, I can also arrange a special two-day excursion to the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel, the historic walled city of Saint-Malo, and the charming medieval town of Dinan. It’s a magical experience that many of my students cherish! Please note that this optional trip comes at an additional cost, and I’ll need a bit of advance notice to organize everything, so do let me know as soon as possible if you’re interested.
Let me know which excursions appeal to you the most, and we’ll create an itinerary tailored to your interests and preferences!
Your Immersion in TENERIFE
I typically host students in Tenerife in February and March.
We will stay in the South of the island, where the weather is usually very stable and pleasant. I know the island pretty well and have found a couple of towns that are away from the main touristic area but still enjoy the best weather in Tenerife.
The airport is “Tenerife South, Reina Sofia” and I will come pick you there. You won’t need to rent a car, I’ll be your chauffeur!

You’ll likely stay in a cozy seaside apartment, while I’ll have my own accommodation nearby, allowing us both to enjoy privacy while still making the most of our time together. I’ll find a simple and comfortable place for you, but if you’d rather choose your own lodging, there are plenty of options, including a beautiful luxury resort.
Our days will be a delicious mix of learning and discovery. After our morning lesson, we’ll typically enjoy lunch at one of Tenerife’s many fantastic restaurants, where fresh seafood is abundant. After a short rest (and a bit of homework), we’ll enjoy the beach or go explore the island together. In the evening, after a hearty midday meal, I’ll prepare something light and healthy, like a fresh salad, pasta, or even some tapas by the sea with a drink in hand.
With its warm winter sun, breathtaking landscapes, and endless outdoor adventures, Tenerife in February and March is an absolute paradise. Imagine gentle hikes with stunning ocean views, wandering through charming villages, or even swimming with sea turtles! This is more than just a French immersion, it’s an unforgettable winter escape.
