Just what I hoped to find, but didn’t really expect to.This is how I love to learn. It helps to improve my French, especially in video calls with a French friend where I can read the poetry aloud. The poetry is well read and the commentaries are very perceptive. Not at all stiff and academic. Just right for me; a poetry lover and student of spoken French.

I have two other audiobooks from French Today and purchased this one because I love Camille’s clear and encouraging style and I knew her reading of these classics would be most enjoyable. Hugo’s Demain Dès L’aube (a personal favourite of mine) is so beautifully read and analysed! Likewise La Cigale et la Fourmi, Verlaine’s Chant d’Automne and so many others. If you want to have fun learning French AND feel the satisfaction of listening to yourself speaking meaningful passages, try learning French poetry – along with the meaning behind it. Camille will get you started (and reveal unexpected twists and traps as well as nuance and idiomatic expression). The rest is up to you. In my case, I walk to work every day – and what a quiet time to practice and get the words and rhythm flowing. And I’ll guarantee you, there’s at least one person you’ll find at work who’s keen to hear you recite what you’ve gained each day.
One more thing., wildly important. The complimentary emails that I get from Camille with French language tips, explanation and general guidance are easy to consume, timely and absolutely priceless. I’ve always wanted to be able to appreciate French poetry but found it rather daunting. When I found the French Poetry course on the Frenchtoday website I was delighted. I am lingering over the beautiful words and amazed at the wealth of information that the course offers. I have set aside a two-hour time in the morning to work on this course and the time flies. Not only am I learning French poetry, but I’m learning about the poets, the history and the people of France. I am touched by this course. Have never had a course like it before. Made me return back to school when we studied poetry and novels…
the first poetry « got me from hello » at first she read it , holds almost no meaning , when she explained the old french words and metaphore , all made sense and I truly understood the poetry with no returning back to see further explanation.
Studing poetry in french is so empowering. the method french today approched those poetries and the selection of the poems it self is the key for the success of this course.

Clarity and lucidity are the words that come to mind with this volume. No one delivers a poem like french today. The slow reading and the normal reading set the poems and then there is a line by line interpretation of the meaning. The poems are translated but you can soon do without them. The final bonus is the mini biographies of the authors.

Beautiful reading of poems. I am particularly interested in Ode de Cassandra. Camille’s reading of the poem is wonderful, and even though I am an Advanced Mid speaker, I enjoy the slower pace when I first start listening. I love the format of this book.
