Meet Christelle - your French tutor, language buddy & host In France
About me, about us :
I am Christelle, also known as Madame Frenchy, and I have always had a passion for foreign cultures, intercultural exchange and meeting other people. Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky enough to have immersive experiences in the USA and Ireland, as well as a year in London with my 3 children in 2016. It was then that I realised that immersion was essential for a deeper understanding of the language and culture, thanks to sharing daily life with locals. After 18 years working in banking, I decided in 2016 to change my career path and focus on teaching French as a foreign language. I obtained my Master 2 FLE at the Université Catholique de l’Ouest in Angers, and then I started teaching French to students from very different cultures, ages and backgrounds with great pleasure. I've been working at the University's CIDEF, a French language learning centre, for 5 years now. We’re a family of 5. There’s my husband, Manu, who works in banking, and our 3 children: Amaury (19), who is currently in Barcelona perfecting his language skills, Clarence (15) and Victoire (9), both of whom go to school in Angers. We also have our lovely dog Vénus, who has been an integral part of our family and our happiness for many years now. Unfortunately, this is why we will not be able to take in your pet. We’re a family of sports enthusiasts and we also love music and singing, which I’m still actively involved in as part of a band with my older brother.
My teaching style :
My teaching style is shaped by your needs and your learning objective: Would you like to improve your oral skills to speak everyday or professional French? Would you like to discover French literature, improve your written skills or resolve grammatical misunderstandings? Anything is possible, because I'll work with you to identify your needs and organise your learning progress. From beginner to advanced level, I've been lucky enough to work with many students from a wide range of backgrounds and I'll do everything I can to meet your needs ;)

I’ve been learning French as a retirement project and last week’s immersion stay in Angers was just what I needed to turbocharge my learning. It was exactly as advertised: a wonderful mix of French lessons, informal conversation and trips in and outside the city, some solo and some guided by Christelle.
I came home feeling stimulated – I’d had a holiday, improved my fluency and begun to grasp nuances of the language that I really hadn’t appreciated before. We talked about everything! Christelle is a sensitive and non-judgmental teacher and she and her husband and children were incredibly welcoming and generous, providing an authentic experience of French family life.
If you get the chance to stay with “Madame Frenchy”, go!!
Christelle and her family were extremely kind and welcoming. She provided an option to act as a taxi service picking me up from Nantes airport or the Angers train station. I opted to take the train as an opportunity to practice my French.
Christelle met me at the train station and drove me and my luggage to her home. Her home and the visitor accommodations are lovely and comfortable and include a private bedroom with a view of the beautiful garden as well as a closet, full length mirror, and desk. There was also a lovely bathroom with bathtub, shower, and hair dryer and a toilette down the hall.
I had some time to rest after travel and then we got together to discuss plans for the week. We decided on morning lessons and Christelle provided a great brochure of the area to help on selecting outings during the week.
Overall it was a fantastic combination of language learning, cultural experience, local tourism, and free time for rest or solo activities.
Christelle was very good at checking in with me about how much French vs English we were using and how I was doing and also took the time to teach me new phrases and concepts and translate conversations during our outings.
There was a grocery shop just a few minutes walk down the street which also had toiletries. Angers also had a great bus and rail system which made it very easy to explore.
Christelle and her family were fantastic hosts and everyone was very kind and encouraging in my learning. This experience is such a gem and I highly recomend it to anyone considering no matter what your level of language familiarity. I would absolutely do this again.
Chère Christelle et famille, merci beaucoup de m’avoir accueilli chez vous . Cela a été un privilège rare et un moment inoubliable et précieux pour moi. Merci infiniment, Alar.
Staying with Madame Frenchy and her family was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! I stayed with her for 3 months while I was in college studying abroad in Angers. I always tell people that the best part of my abroad experience was my host family. Madame Frenchy is so sweet, intelligent and was super helpful as I tried to improve my French. Her family is so wonderful and so fun to be around. They welcomed me with open arms and I truly felt at home with them in Angers! I loved it so much that I’m brining my whole family to meet them this upcoming summer! Staying with Madame Frenchy is the perfect way to learn the language and culture in the heart of a beautiful French town with an amazing family.
I loved my stay with Christelle, Madame Frenchy!! She is such a knowledgeable person and truly so caring. I felt instantly welcomed in her home by her family. She also loves teaching and she is always ready to explain something I don’t understand. It’s so cool to see how a French family lives, speaks and enjoys life together! I highly recommend!
“Madame Frenchy” or Mrs. Christelle was an AMAZING host during my time in France! Her and her family were super welcoming and loving. They made my experience the best it could have been!! I learned so much about the French culture and history, it has made me want to come back and visit often! If you are nervous about France I would recommend staying here. They do a great job of explaining everything and making you feel comfortable while being somewhere new. During my stay in Angers I would say it felt like Christelle and her family felt like my home away from home. You could not have a better experience anywhere else!
There is not enough that I could say to thank and praise Christelle. I was the first foreign student that she graciously welcomed into her home with her family for an extended period of time back in 2018. My time with them is one that I will never forget and always look upon with cherished memories. The amount of care and intention that her and her family put towards me was one that was so above and beyond that I truly am at a loss for words. Looking back at all of the experiences through true immersion in France is truly unforgettable and without a doubt, a once in a lifetime experience. Christelle is such a kind and understanding person and it shows through everyone around her, even their dog Venus ^.^ This is something you can’t miss !
