Meet Sophie - your French tutor, language buddy & host In France
WHO AM I?
Bonjour! I'm Sophie, a native French speaker from southwest France, the region celebrated for fine wine and world-class gastronomy. I was born in Nérac, the site of the castle of Henri IV, and moved to Bordeaux at 18 years old where I studied French literature at the University Michel de Montaigne. Through managing AirBNBs in Bordeaux I interacted and developed friendships with many foreigners and discovered my passion for displaying the culture of southwest France and teaching French to new students.
I teach French both online and through immersion stays in Talence, located just 15 minutes from the center of Bordeaux by tram.
MY INTERESTS
First while talking to foreign travelers staying in AirBNBs, then through enriching discussions with my French students, I developed a great enthusiasm for discovering the variety of cultures and ways of life in different parts of the globe.
In the same way, I am very proud to explain and show my students the French façon de vivre, particularly in the southwest of France which is my homeland. Through visits to Bordeaux and its region, and also by reading and discussing articles in daily newspapers, I share my deep love for France with my students.
MY PERSONALITY
I am a positive and relaxed person who likes to encourage my French students to step out of their comfort zone. For me, making mistakes is an essential part of learning and should never be considered a failure, but on the contrary as a crucial element for progress. I adapt my lessons and materials to the level of each student and orient my teaching proposals according to the interests and desired outcomes of each student.
MY FRENCH IMMERSION PROGRAM
I teach French in a natural and fun way: through face-to-face lessons, lunches in restaurants, in the shops around Bordeaux, walks along the quai by the Garonne river, etc. We will take every opportunity to speak and practice French in the native environment!
I really love what I do, I do not consider it a job but more as a pleasure: That’s why I will include you in my everyday life!
TYPICAL ONE DAY PROGRAM
In general, classes are held from Monday to Friday in the morning, but I'm flexible to your schedule.
The day begins at about 8:30 am with a typical French breakfast (coffee, tea, pastries from a local bakery, fruit juice). This is the opportunity to begin the morning speaking in French, to discuss our daily lives as well as consider themes of the day and language goals.
Then, the two hours of traditional classes begin based on French current events and the student's personal interests. Generally we discuss a specific grammar point for a few minutes, then read and analyse an article from one of the local newspapers, and end the class with an oral comprehension session using a short video to sharpen the ability to understand native speakers. I use a variety of media and materials to make the lessons as enjoyable and fun as possible.
After the traditional lesson it is time for lunch. Depending on the student's choice, we can journey into Bordeaux to eat together before going on a cultural tour of the city or wider region, or you can spend your afternoon privately as you wish. There's so much to see in Bordeaux! It's also possible to mix the two options during the week. For example: 3 full days with lunch and an activity in the afternoon, and 2 days of free time to repose and relax or tour the City on your own.
Learn French In France – Your French immersion Program in Bordeaux
Bordeaux, the "Pearl of Aquitaine" is the fifth most populated in France after Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Lille, ahead of Toulouse.
Bordeaux is a world capital of wine, with its castles and vineyards of the Bordeaux region that stand on the hillsides of the Gironde and is home to the world's main wine fair, Vinexpo. The grand wine museum La Cité du Vin is located in the City center, just 25 minutes by tram from the flat. Southwest France is celebrated for its regional gastronomy, this is the province of foie gras and confit de canard.
Bordeaux is an international destination due to its architectural and cultural heritage with more than 350 historic monuments, the most registered monuments in France after Paris. You can experience all the visual pleasures of 19th century French architecture without the immense crowds of the Champs-Elysées.
The "Pearl of Aquitaine" has been voted European Destination of the year in online polls. Many Parisians have relocated to Bordeaux to enjoy the bordelaise lifestyle, "la douceur de vivre" away from the crowds of Paris. The only risk is that you don’t have enough time to do everything during your stay: this will only make you want to come back!
