Meet Gwen - your French language buddy & host In France
Bonjour !
I am Miss Gwen, your future French immersion host. I taught English for 20 years in France and abroad, yet I have always been fond of my own language and culture.
How do I know immersion is the best way to learn a language ? Because I’ve experienced it myself—many years ago! I dreamed of speaking English fluently, just like a native, and I did. So, what made it easier?
First, stimulation ! I was in an English-only environment; I could not use my mother tongue. Then, motivation! Your brain works ten times more efficiently when you're in a real-life situation. Third, natives ! I met patient and friendly locals who helped me daily.
Anyway, I became passionate about developping my skills and comparing both French and English languages. I still am ! Thats' why after teaching English to French teenagers for 20 years, I decided to devote myself to adults who long to speak French !
My years working with teenagers have taught me patience and kindness, and I understand how important it is for everyone to feel comfortable when learning and speaking a new language. If you feel nervous about speaking French, we will always find a way to relax and have fun to make things easier !
My husband, son, and I live in a beautiful picturesque village and we adore our home for its stunning view. We are surrounded by friendly and helpful neighbors and we feel very lucky to live here. We’re a family which loves meeting new people and sharing our love for French culture and hear about other people's lives. We all speak English, so if you ever feel tired after a day of practicing French, you’re welcome to switch to English and relax a little !
My FRENCH IMMERSION PROGRAM is for you if ...
You are fond of French culture and can't wait to dive into it !
You have been dreaming of adopting the pace and philosophy of the French lifestyle !
You can't wait to practice your French in a warm and supportive environment !
Throughout the week, we will focus on improving your LISTENING and SPEAKING skills through engaging cultural workshops. French cinema, drama or cooking class are on the menu ; are you hungry ?
Every meal and excursion will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in authentic conversation with me and locals we meet along the way.
All we need to do now is meet online to get to know eachother before we meet "pour de vrai" ! You will get a glance at a typical week with me and start designing your bespoke programme.
Learn French In France – Your French immersion Program in Montagnac, Occitanie
Occitanie (Languedoc) is a huge region and we live in a small village in le Gard near Nîmes where the countryside is called "La Guarrige". You can already hear the cicada and smell thyme and basil !
There are so many highlights in our region, I don't know where to start !
Nîmes and its roman architecture and monuments is like traveling back in time ! We will visit the newly elected UNESCO World Heritage site, the Maison Carrée, and, of course, the Arenas but also enjoy some night markets or festivals there.
Medieval Uzes and its vibrant grocery market will make you dizzy with its fresh local products. An "apéro en terrasse" will help you relax and soak in the lively atmosphere.
Avignon will be worth visiting too ! Not only the Palace of the Popes or the Bridge but also to see a play in French during the Festival of theatre in July !
Why not head to La Camargue near the sea to discover the wildlife in the wetlands (flamingos, wild horses, bulls). We may spend some time bird-watching or stroll through the cobbled streets of Aigues-Mortes, a fortified town founded in the 13th century.
We are also very close to les Cévennes mountain region for an outdoor activity like hiking or canoing. But we could also visit goat farms and taste the best goat cheese in France for cheese lovers (including me ;)
Last but not least, we'll go wine tasting along the way !
I have arranged a variety of day trips for you to choose from, so let’s discuss and customize your perfect adventure!
Your French Immersion Homestay Accommodations in Montagnac, Occitanie
My husband and I bought this house a couple of years ago. I want this house to be as welcoming as possible... My friends call it "La maison de vacances" since they feel like on holidays when they stay here !
2024 Accomodation for up to 2 people
The ensuite double bedroom will allow you to rest and relax in a cosy and unique atmosphere. The bathroom was renovated in a Art Deco style but with modern amenities !
You will enjoy the comfortable bed, the independant entrance and a private toilet.
2025 Accomodation for up to 4 people
We are always improving the house, and we are currently renovating another section to create a 'gîte' – a self-contained apartment attached to the main house. By looking at the current photos of the bedroom and house, you will get a good idea of what the new accommodation will look like.
It will feature 2 double bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed.
The apartment will also include a spacious, modern kitchen and a cozy living room with the same stunning views of the mountains and vineyard.
In the evenings, you can relax on the terrace with a glass of wine or fresh juice, and maybe some more cheese!
How to get there ?
Nîmes is 2.30 hours from Paris by TGV. There is also an airport with flights from London or an airport in Montpellier.
Transport
I drive my guests around for all the outings included in the programme but I recommend you to rent a car though. We live in a tiny village and you may want to enjoy some more visits and restaurants while you're here.
For now, book a call with me so we can start designing your bespoke immersion programme !

Let me start with the week I had in Montagnac with Gwen and her family. What a week! What a place!
Sunday evening Gwen, Loic and their son greeted me with our first home meal… such a good start !
Their 18th century home, right on the cliff edge in a tiny village was sublime, the food amazing, wine delightful and company – the best! I very quickly felt so welcomed and throughout the week the conversation didn’t stop. In as much French as I could muster but we switched to English when I needed to. It was just what my heart needed. On top of the cultural workshops, Gwen took me out on excursions : Uzes for market day to buy supplies for our cooking class that night, a winery to learn from the vigneron, Avignon for the theatre festival and a visit to Palais des Papes and lunch with Arlette, Gwen’s mum! We also had a day out in Nîmes, of course !
My French definitely improved through the week and more so after a glass or two of champagne on our last night together.
I left feeling really uplifted, it was a brilliant week, in a beautiful place with people who now feel like old friends !
