I have recently started using the phrase book to help me converse more easily whilst shopping in the local shops and also with neighbours as they walk by my house. Currently I struggle to answer quickly and with confidence when I am confronted by a friendly face who just wants a quick chat. I found the book really useful and easy to understand. I can go at my own pace and not worry about holding others up in a classroom environment. Listening and repeating hopefully improves my pronunciation so that I’m understood when I try to hold a conversation. When we are finally able to go out and meet people after the Covid confinement and with a bit of effort on my part I shall be ready. Hope my neighbours are too!

Loving the new Modern French Audio Phrase Book! It’s a great intro and first step into gaining the confidence of being able to enjoy conversation when visiting France. It is also a natural introduction to the method of learning prevalent across all of the French Today publications – a method I find very effective. I’d suggest anyone with an interest in speaking French downloads this free resource – and if you like it, take the next step with one of the other books. OK, so most of us can’t actually get to France right now….but what better way to prepare than getting our conversation ready for when we can!

Great review for me. I have an apartment in Paris and need the conversation French to keep up with my language skills since it has been almost a year since visiting France due to the pandemic. A very useful phrasebook. Covers so many everyday phrases and sayings that you almost certainly going to need. The phrases take into account most everyday situations. It is most unlikely that you will be stuck for the phrase to use in most given situations.

You may think you know the basics but French Today introduces you to the many ways people express themselves in a very orderly and easy to follow fashion. If you have poor listening skills as I do, the enunciated version, followed by regular speed is something not found elsewhere and is wonderful.

This book is great for learning the essential phrases you will need ,some you might not need regularly and some you won’t need at al but all are great fun for learning how to pronounce words as spoken now ,
You don’t have to read along just put the audio on and repeat what you hear, as spoken French and written French are totally different
Don’t forget to speak out loud so you feel less self conscious of how you sound over time,
I even like to shout “bonjour” in reply to people who say “morning” while out cycling/walking, I’m sure they realise I’m not French but it’s amazing what a confidence booster it is ,, once or twice children have replied with “bonjour ca va” and gave us all something to smile about
I’ve tried night school but the a moi Paris books are far far better and worth every penny
