I consider myself fairly “fluent” in French, enough to listen to French radio on the internet and to have an account with Amazon France so I can order the occasional book or graphic novel.
But numbers have always defeated me. So I recently bought Camille’s Mastering French Numbers to attempt to make some progress.
She starts out fairly simply, counting slowly from one to ten, and I thought, oh man, this is for absolute beginners. Too basic for the likes of me!
Boy was I wrong! The lessons quickly advance in an orderly manner and become extremely challenging. I highly recommend this book if you feel the least bit deficient in mastering French numbers.

This audiobook is absolutely wonderful! Being able to understand and say numbers without hesitation is essential for so many day-to-day activities. These drills are fantastic, the best way to really learn French numbers! After years of studying French and I was still doing arithmetic in my head with the “crazy” numbers until I worked with this audio book. All of the French Today audio books are excellent, I highly recommend them.

This book, like all from French today, offer a different way of learning to speak and understand French. After several years of studying I never before realised that I have to learn numbers like words, not separate digits put together. Now I know why I always stop to think when I hear a number – I don’t do it when I hear words that I know!

My weakness in my French conversation is my lack of speed with recognising the larger numbers. By the time I’ve worked out what the number is, the conversation has moved on. Camille concentrates in helping you recognise the numbers without having to waist time working them out. If you struggle with French numbers, and who doesn’t, this product is for you.

This audiobook has really helped me to identify which numbers cause me the most grief and the explanations and drills have really helped me improve my understanding of numbers. I would have given it five stars except that I think it lacks one very important section; that of practice in hearing historical dates. I would have loved to be able to drill on that so that when I’m listening to a historical excerpt, that includes the years when things happened, I don’t get tripped up by failing to understand the date. Often the context changes completely depending on the year that something took place, and if you don’t understand that, you lose the point of what is being said.
