I’ve done Pimsleur Levels 1 – 5 (twice in fact, and, am going through it again when I’m in the car– I’m a big believer in reviewing, reviewing reviewing), but was looking for another program. I also wanted to find a program for my wife, who has tried Pimsleur but wanted something with a bit more in the way of explanation. I decided to give French Today a try and just started at the very beginning. At this point it’s mostly review, but I still feel like I am learning. I look forward to the next levels. I particularly like being able to listen at the different speeds. I watch a fair amount of French TV through the magic of Prime and Netflix and wish I could slow them down (pro tip: they speak more slowly in shows made in Belgium). Anyway, I have been enjoying the program and find the volume of explanatory material to be just right — informative and illuminating without being overwhelmingly academic.
My one critical comment would be that since the chapters in A moi Paris are set up as dialogues, it would help the listener if there were two people — two voices — rather than just a single voice doing everything.

We have traveled many times to France in our Motorhome. However, I was often embarrassed by the fact that I still understood little of the language. I have now retired so have time to put that right
I have chosen French Today Beginners over the others available because the context used and the style of learning suits my everyday experiences. I found that other systems seem to concentrate on writing rather than naturally spoken French.
French Today is working for me and I seem to be making progress and gaining confidence in speaking out loud. With each trip to France, I seem to be able to communicate a little better but more importantly I have the confidence to try.
Still a long way to go but I am enjoying the progress that I seem to be making.

For anyone who has ever thought that they couldn’t learn a language, French Today will prove you wrong!! Camille’s approach is brilliant and introduces you to the way ‘real’ french people speak while providing you with the supporting grammar to give you the confidence to engage in french.

I am really enjoying studying French with this series. In addition to the 4 levels, there are additional audiobooks on specific topics. I also like getting the emails on Monday to enhance my learning. I have used Rosetta Stone before but this app is more practical. The audiobook series are great for spoken French. I listen to the dialog at different speeds and repeat as much as I can remember out loud. I often play them while I drive on errands or walk. I tried watching French TV shows or movies but the dialog is too fast and too diverse for a beginner. The À Moi Paris beginner stories are interesting and perfect for a beginner. I’m just starting the intermediate series and look forward to those stories.

Great series, and I loved the pace of the story with Camille. Not too fast and not too slow, a great speed for listening as a beginner. I would have liked a longer pause between the exercise sentences so I could verbally speak the answers but that was a minor flaw in my eyes. I can’t wait to delve into part 2 now!

This is the best course that exists. It is so thorough and well planned. I am supposed to be at level B1 but I realised that the exam that I had taken was far too easy : there is so much that I don’t know.
I have bought all the À Moi Paris audio books and I wish that I had discovered them earlier.
I have also purchased all the Verb Drills which are truly excellent.

The fact that Camille has recorded herself speaking in three different speeds is incredibly helpful. As she notes, spoken French sounds very different than the French I learned in high school 35 years ago! I finally feel hopeful that I’ll become proficient one day in the near future. Great product!
