Learn French in France – Your Immersion Homestay Program in South West France
Meet Your French Teacher And Host
Bonjour, my name is Pierre and I’m a graduated and experienced French native teacher. I’ve been teaching French for over 9 years, starting when I lived in the UK – so I speak English fluently as well.
I love history and architecture (I actually own a Masters degree in history). I also love the art, literature and the movies, so when you come for a French immersion with me, you’ll improve your French language for sure, but also will learn a lot about French culture.
We will start our day together with a nice breakfast, then I’ll give you your formal French lesson. When we’re done, I’ll prepare lunch and in the early afternoon I’ll take you around and we’ll chat in French. It will be then time for you to practice everything we’ve learned together: I’ll return to my home (5mn walking distance from yours) and you’ll have some free time to go explore the region by yourself, or study (I can give you homework if you’d like), or just relax in the privacy and confort of your own house.
During our structured French lessons, I’ll focus on your needs and French goals. Through the other activities, during the meals, the outings, I’ll help you develop your spoken French: there’s such a big gap between the French you’ve studied at school and the French we speak everyday!
I am separated and have two teenage boys and a baby daughter. They will come and visit during some weekends and vacation.
“My daughter and I have no hesitation to recommend Pierre to other families of any French level. He is a wonderful host, talented chef and an excellent teacher! Merci Pierre!”

Your Accomodation in South West France: 3 Choices
You will enjoy your own private house in France. I work with a lovely English lady called Kate, who is bilingual and very friendly – you’ll certainly meet her and her daughters.
Kate has “des gîtes” – holiday homes, which are located in a huge garden – great for kids – with an old mill, a cascade, a treehouse…, within walking distance of the typical French village of Fosse, where I reside (5mn walking distance from your house).
Depending on the number of guests in your party, you could stay at:
- A comfy studio called “La Terrasse” featuring garden views and a private entrance, with a double pull-out bed, a private bathroom, a small fully equipped kitchen, a patio and BBQ. Perfect for one person or a couple. A child’s bed or crib can be added.
- A lovely two-bedroom house called “La Bergerie” with garden views and a private entrance. “La Bergerie” features a room with a double bed and another one with a single bed, a shared bathroom, a large dining and sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen and an outdoor patio with BBQ. A child’s bed or crib can be added.
- A spacious three bedroom house for families called “La Grange” with garden views and a private entrance. The first bedroom has two single beds which can be put together to make a large bed, the second bedroom has a double bed and the last bedroom has a bunk bed. There is a shared bathroom, a large dining and sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen and a nice patio. This larger holiday home features a fully equipped kitchen and a barbecue. A child’s bed or crib can be added.
In Fosse, there’s a refreshing swimming pool, a free-access tennis court and a bus which for one Euro will take you to the large seaside city of Perpignan and many beautiful sites in the region. The nearest town with all amenities, shops and restaurants is 7 miles away, 15 mn driving.
People in this part of France are very friendly and are always interested in meeting newcomers – it’s easy to strike up a conversation.
Learn French In South West France
The region is called “Les Pyrénées orientales”: it’s an area of outstanding natural beauty: unspoilt, Southern rural France at its best. Imagine untouched gorges, canyons with splendid watering holes where you can go swimming, mountains, forests, wild meadows…
Since it’s close to the Mediterranean the climate is mild year-round, yet in the wintertime, you could ski when you go to the top of the nearby mountains.
If you rent a car you can easily get to splendid villages and castles: Peyrepertuse (on the picture above), Puylaurens, Quéribus, Montségur, Cucugnan… postcard villages and castles, classified among the most beautiful villages in France!
35 miles away is the “castle city of Carcassonne” where the entire city is a medieval castle! In the opposite direction, you’re only one hour away from the Mediterranean sea, the city of Perpignan or the beautiful Port Baccarès.
If you are interested, there are also fantastic grottos to visit – although as I already said, we are mostly above ground enjoying all the activities nature has to offer: hiking, rock climbing, horseback or bike riding but also many water sports such as canoeing or kayaking.
You’re also welcome to just hang and relax, stay home and read a good book in the garden… It’s your vacation: we’ll do whatever you fancy!
Practical Info About Your French Immersion Residential Course
Getting To Your House
I will gladly pick you up at the Limoux station, and I could arrange for a pick-up at the Perpignan airport for an additional fee.
The large international airport of Barcelona airport in Spain may be worth your consideration: it’s much closer than Paris, and since Spain is part of Europe, going from there to France is no problem at all.
Renting a car will be ideal so you can fully take advantage of the region: you can easily do so in Toulouse, Barcelona, Carcassonne, Perpignan or Limoux and I’ll give you links.
There is wifi throughout the houses.
I go to the nearby markets to buy in-season fresh produce, which I use to cook traditional French food. I like to cook savory pies with veggies from the garden, and also crêpes. I sometimes cook the local specialties like duck and foie-gras, when my students are open to it of course.
You are of course welcome to cook with me, and I will be happy to adapt my cuisine to particular diets. I can cook really healthy, mostly vegetarian food or we can indulge with yummy duck… Just let me know what you like.
The houses are strictly non-smoking inside, and I don’t smoke. Smoking is tolerated outside in the garden.
You could come with your pet as long as it is well-trained, quiet and won’t run away.
A typical 1 week (7 days, 6 night) immersion includes but is not limited to:
My program is as flexible as you want it to be. Prices vary depending on what exactly you would like your stay to be, but this example gives you an idea:
- 15 hours tuition – usually 3 hours in the morning over 5 days.
- As much (or as little) homework as you want: listening activities, preparation for conversation/discussion, structured reading…
- Accommodation on your own private house.
- 2 meals a day with me (breakfast and lunch) unless you prefer to take off on your own.
- 2 accompanied excursions or cultural activities – eg. a visit of some of the castles of the region, or a long hike in the countryside + picnic, a tour of a village + lunch in a simple restaurant – according to your interests.
- Preferred arrival date on Sunday, departure the next Saturday – but I’m flexible on the days.
The price with these options is 1400 Euros for one person.
For one additional guest, the price per week is:
- Staying in the studio “La Terrasse” (one double bed): Euros 210 in half board without lessons or excursions / Euros 700 in half board with shared lessons and excursions.
- Staying in the two-bedroom house “La Bergerie”: Euros 300 in half board without lessons or excursions / Euros 700 in half board with shared lessons and excursions.
If you are traveling with your family or several friends and/or would like to stay at “la grange”, please contact me directly for pricing.
There are other options with more tuition / a longer excursion /no excursion… I am flexible, and will be happy to adapt to special requests.
“Thank you Pierre for all of your time, support and guidance. You’ve given me a renewed sense of confidence in my French, and you have genuinely helped deepen my love for this beautiful language.”
