Meet Your French Teacher and Hosts
Bonjour, my name is Suzanne – welcome to my home!
As a teacher, my aim is to increase students’ confidence so that they can go off and talk to other people: being English native myself, I understand perfectly well the courage it takes to speak French to French natives.
My husband Peter and I live in the countryside, just outside Jugon les Lacs, a ‘petite cité de caractère’ – a town with a colourful history going back to medieval times. The other permanent resident is our affectionate 4-legged friend ‘Monsieur X’ – our outdoors-only cat.
People here are very friendly and it will be easy for you to practice your French with the locals.
As we also run a Bed and Breakfast, we have three guest rooms with private bathrooms so we can easily accommodate a family traveling together: I can give formal French lessons to one or several people, as the others enjoy the region (or relax in our garden!).
You are also welcome to come just by yourself (in this case you’ll be my only student), or with your spouse or with a friend. I teach all levels of French learners and kids as well.
I prefer to do all my teaching in French, with a large array of materials and activities to draw upon, but can explain tricky points quickly and simply in English if needed. I also speak Spanish, German and Italian.
“This has been one of the best weeks of my life. The two of you are some of the most fascinating and interesting, and warm people I have ever met!”

Welcome to Our Home in Brittany, France
Our home is a typical breton farm which we entirely renovated ourselves. I have a spacious dedicated classroom for lessons, there’s a cosy sitting room where you can relax, and an open kitchen to the dining room which is typically Breton.
And of course there is our big garden. The garden is a great place to relax, and we often eat outside.
Peter and I are quite active in local village life (choir, Breton dancing, library, running bilingual quizzes in the local bar …), and will involve you in those activities if you like.
Your Room and Private Bathroom
Your bedroom is of moderate size, and is cosy and comfortable. There is a hot drinks corner, and you have your own shower room with sink and wc. Wi-fi is free.
We have three guest bedrooms in our house each with a private shower room, so there is plenty of space if you are traveling with your family or a group of friends!
Next door to your bedroom, you have a bright study room with a table, chair, armchair, a library of French books of different levels and views over the countryside – the perfect place to study!

Near our house, you’ll find the town of Dinan, le Cap Fréhel and Fort la Latte, la ferme d’Antan, le château de la Hunaudaye, and forest, country or lakeside walks.
If you rent a car, you can easily get to St Malo, le Mont St Michel, Vitré, Fougères, Josselin, Paimpol, La Roche Jagu, the island of Bréhat la Côte de Granit Rose…
Practical Info About Your French Immersion Residential Course
Getting to Our House
Trains from Paris arrive in nearby Lamballe and Rennes, from where we can pick you up. Our nearest airports are Rennes and Dinard. Car hire is possible at all of these places if booked in advance.
Car Rental
During a week’s stay, I will take you out on a couple of visits, but if you are interested in seeing as much as possible while you are here, you should consider hiring a car during your stay.
Public transport outside the main Breton towns is not well developed. Bike hire can possibly be arranged from the Jugon Sport and Leisure Centre.
Wifi
There is Wifi throughout the house.
Smoking
We don’t smoke and smoking is not allowed in the house. You may smoke in the garden if you wish.
Diets
Lunches are copious, and many of the vegetables and much of the fruit that we use come from our prize-winning organic garden.
It’s my husband Peter who usually does the cooking at home. He likes to prepare healthy “French style” food but also traditional Breton cooking such as galettes and Breton pork.
Peter will accommodate a vegetarian diet, but cooking vegan or other special diets can be problematic since ingredients can be difficult to source locally.
Pets
Sorry, we cannot welcome your pet.
A typical 1 week (7 days, 6 night) immersion includes but is not limited to:
- 15 hours tuition – usually 3 hours in the morning over 5 days.
- As much (or as little) homework as you want: listening activities, preparation for conversation/discussion, structured reading…
- Accommodation in your own room with private shower room (we have 3 rooms available).
- 2 meals a day: breakfast with me, and possibly with French-speaking B&B guests; a copious lunch with me (and Peter, perhaps), or a prepared picnic lunch, for days when you prefer to go out sightseeing.
- 2 accompanied excursions or cultural activities – eg. a visit to Dinan, a walk along the coastal path, a visit to a local château or special garden, a local festival, preparing a French speciality dish together – according to your interests.
- Inclusion in my weekly local ‘duties’ is also possible (eg. Breton dance practice, officiating at the local library)
- If needed, the loan of a laptop for homework listening activities.
- Preferred arrival on Sunday, departure on Saturday
The price with these options is 1350 Euros for one person.
Additional Guests
For one additional guest, the price per week is:
- Euros 210 in half board, without lessons or excursions,
- Euros 700 in half board with shared lessons and excursions.
We can host up to six guests traveling together. If you are a larger family / group traveling together, contact me for more pricing information.
There are other options with more tuition /no excursions… I am flexible, can adapt to special requests.
“Suzanne’s French classes were excellent. She has a great teaching system matched by her enormous energy, enthusiasm and patience. With what seems like a year’s tuition packed into one week, we now have a greater appreciation of the language and culture.”
