Your French Immersion Homestay in the Beaujolais, France

Meet Your French Teacher and Host

Bonjour ! My name is Marion, I’m a native Frenchwoman in her early thirties.

Before I became a French immersion teacher, I worked for 3 years at the Alliance Française in Jersey (Channel Islands) and before that, the Alliance Française of Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania. I have a DAEFLE degree (diploma for teaching French as a second language).

Traveling is my passion: I’ve lived in Mexico, Portugal, Tanzania and Jersey, and therefore I’m fluent in English and Spanish.

I specialize in teaching French to adults of all levels and ages, focusing on oral skills as I think speaking and listening are the main objectives of most students. It is also important for me that you feel confident and that you take pleasure in the learning process.

The lessons will be tailored to your needs, often using games, fun activities, videos and radio/podcasts.

In my spare time, I do sports: I run in the countryside around my house and I sometimes go swimming. I also enjoy reading and gardening, hiking or any outside activities. And I love food and wine!

We are a very laid-back family. We enjoy hanging around the pool or on the terrace, reading a nice book, gardening or playing some games in the game room. We are good hearted people and our lifestyle reflects it.

Welcome to My House in France’s Beaujolais Region

My house is located in the Beaujolais region, in a tinyl and peaceful village near Mâcon (on the Rhône valley, not far from Lyon).

It’s big L shape house, with a large garden and private swimming pool.

My mother – who is retired – and my brother also live in the house. It’s big enough that we all have our own independent living corners and lives. When they are around, my Mom and brother will be happy to help you practice your French.

Our house is rather big! It has several bedrooms, a large open floor with our living room, dinning room and kitchen. We love having people over and we often do!

Over the student’s apartment, there is a large unfinished space we use as a game room in the summer, with a pool table, ping-pong, and table football – it’s a great space if you are traveling with kids!

In summer we eat on the terrace, it’s my favorite place of the house. And of course, there is the garden, and our large swimming pool.

We have two cats and also have chicken which means fresh eggs every day! We also have an organic garden for fresh vegetables and fruits.

Your Own Flat in Beaujolais

You’ll have your own flat in the courtyard of the house, on the garden level. It’s bright, quiet and very private and was renovated just 2 years ago.

Your flat can accommodate 4 to 5 people: 2 in the master bedroom and 2 on the sofa bed in the lounge, and extra bed could be added for a child.

The lounge has the afternoon sun and opens to the outdoors. It’s warm and cosy and has a sofa bed which sleeps two, and a nice dining table. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a small table.

There is a large bedroom with a king size bed, a nice bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet.

Learn French in France’s Beaujolais Wine Country

Living in the heart of the Beaujolais vineyard, my family and I have a passion: natural wine and we’ll be delighted to share it with you if you’d like.

Beaujolais villages and vineyards are simply all around us, and wine tastings can easily be arranged with local winemakers.

Near our house is the pristine medieval city of Pérouges, the “Solutré” rock, a geological and historical jewel, and within an easy car ride, the beautiful cities of Lyon, Mâcon among many others…

You may also like to visit the “Hameau du Duboeuf” the first theme park for viticulture and wine.

Practical Info About Your French Immersion Residential Course

Getting To My House

The nearest airport is in Lyon.

There are several train options: the TGV to Mâcon Loche (2h from Paris) or a regional train to Belleville-sur-Saône (35 minutes from Lyon center). I can come to pick you up on both these stations.

Car Rental

Because my house is located in a tiny village in the countryside, I recommend you rent a car if you’d like to travel around. You can easily do so in Lyon. If you don’t feel like driving in a big city, you can rent a car in Lyon St-Exupery Airport. It’s about one hour drive to my house on the highway.

Wifi

There is Wifi connexion in the house.

Smoking

I enjoy smoking a cigarette from time to time but only do so outside. Smoking is not allowed inside.

Diets

I love cooking, and will be happy to cook for you if you’d like. I can prepare traditional French food but I also like to take inspiration in exotic recipes that I’ve learnt during my travels. I’m happy to adapt my cooking to any specific diet, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc…

Pets

We love animals so you are welcome to come with a well-behaved, well groomed cat or dog that won’t bother our two cats and chickens.

Pool

The pool is open, there is no fence around it. Please understand that if you do come with children or pets, it will be your responsibility to watch them carefully.

A typical 1 week (7 days, 6 night) immersion includes but is not limited to:

  • 15 hours intense studying with me – usually 1.5h twice a day over 5 days
  • 2 organised excursions of your choice in the region (entry fees not included)
  • Accommodation in your own flat on the garden level of my family house
  • 2 meals a day: breakfast and lunch
  • Preferred arrival on Sunday, departure on Saturday

The Price With These Options Is 1300 Euros for one person.

Additional Guests

For one additional guest in half board, the price per week is:

  • Euros 210 without lessons or excursions,
  • Euros 700 with shared lessons and excursions.

You are welcome to come alone, or with your spouse, a friend, or your whole family!

Your flat can accommodate 4 to 5 people: 2 in the master bedroom and 2 on the sofa bed in the lounge, and extra bed could be added for a child.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in our house, and introducing you to my family: we’ll gently encourage you to speak French and help you discover everything the Beaujolais has to offer.

The one week French language immersion course that my wife and I spent in June 2019 with Marion and family in Lancie was very welcoming, motivating and relaxing. Although we live in France close to the Swiss border, we really needed to practice conversational French in a family environment before our naturalisation interview at the Prefecture du Rhone. This was our objective. Marion is a really wonderful, attentive and experienced teacher. She took us gently but firmly through sentence construction using random word cards, and corrected our grammar during the early morning lessons while walking through the vineyards. This is really an excellent way to practice French, and so the conversation flowed just like the Beaujolais wine. Yes, we also visited a XVth century chateau that produces a good vintage and had an interesting wine tasting session. On another occasion we drove with Marion to Lyon and spent the day enjoying the local history and important sites of the city with our expert. We finally ended up having a delicious meal in one of her favourite restaurants in the old part of the city. My wife really appreciated the family lunchtimes in Lancie with Marion and her mother sharing in the conversation and jokes of our morning’s adventures. Our confidence in French casual talking and vocabulary has improved greatly during this immersion week and we thoroughly recommend Marion’s method to all.The one week French language immersion course that my wife and I spent in June 2019 with Marion and family in Lancie was very welcoming, motivating and relaxing.
