Learn French in France – Your Immersion Homestay Program Near Mont Ventoux, Provence
Meet Your Host
Bonjour ! My name is Nathalie. Welcome to my house!
I am a 56 years old French woman, and I have been living most of my life in Paris. Last year, I settled down in Auxy (here is my French immersion program in the Loiret), a tiny country village of the Loiret region, located only one hour from Paris.
But as winters are really cold there, I have decided to spend a few months (November 15 to April 15) in Provence, in the beautiful Mont Ventoux area.
I have been in contact with many foreigners since I worked for many years in the travel and communication industry. I speak English fluently, and therefore understand the challenges of speaking another language.
Although I am not a French teacher, I am confident I will be able to help you practice your French in the context of our daily activities and tours, in a relaxed, natural way.
Of course, to best take advantage of this immersion program, it’s better if you are already conversant in French (level B1 or higher) since unlike the other teachers of the French Today immersion team, I will not provide formal French lessons. I will however adapt my speaking to your French level: using simpler or more challenging constructions, tenses and expressions depending on what works for you.
I have a wonderful 26 years old daughter, Marie, who lives in Marseille and often visits with her boyfriend. My other “baby” is Simon, a cute black-and-white cat.
Food is an important part of French culture, and cooking is one of my hobbies. I therefore also offer a “foodie option” with cooking lessons : a fun way to mix your interest for French cuisine and practice your French.
“Right away, Nathalie was able to adjust to my level of French very well. She helped me to verbalize my thoughts in French and discuss everything from 1970s folk music to Henry Clay Frick– which was quite a break from the verb conjugations and grammar exercises in school.”
Emma (stayed with Nathalie in the Loiret)
My Home in Malaucène, Near Mont Ventoux, Provence, France
Your Own Bungalow in Provence
The house is 300 meters from the center of the village of Malaucène. Set in a private, cozy typical provençal garden, the main house is an old sheepfold, renovated with love and good taste.
The guest accommodation, an newly renovated stone building is opposite the sunroom, across the garden. It’s is independent of the main house, so you’ll have plenty of privacy.
Your own private bungalow consists of a bedroom with double bed (140cm), a shower room with a toilet and a small lounge area with a sofa bed, and two large windows overlooking the garden, and a TV.
The big house features a fully equipped kitchen, a living room and dining room area. We sure will enjoy our time by the large fireplace, or sitting in the enclosed sunroom with the view of the garden.
My quarters are upstairs.
Learn French in The Ventoux Region in France
Malaucène is a village of 3000 inhabitants, located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the Vaucluse, on the edge of the Drôme Provençale in Provence.
The village is well known to cycling fans because it is a legendary stage of the Tour de France! It is also a typical village of Provence, with its fountains, its market (one of the oldest in the region), its maze of alleys, medieval remains, churches and chapels.
There are many shops, bakeries, butcher, cheese, cafes, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, art galleries and several wineries … this region is also famous for its wines (Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Cairanne, Ventoux, Beaume-de-Venise….).
Around Malaucène, many villages are classified among the most beautiful in France: the medieval town of Vaison-la-Romaine, the typical Provencal village of Séguret, the city with the forty fountains of Pernes-Les-Fontaines, the castle of Barroux, to name a few.
Many hiking sites await you, starting with the Dentelles de Montmirail massif, the Bois du Defends in Sault, the Lavender path, the Beaumes Rouges trail …
Not to mention the famous truffle market in Carpentras!
Practical Info About Your French Immersion Course Homestay
PLEASE NOTE NATHALIE’S PROGRAM IN THE VENTOUX IS OPEN NOVEMBER 15th TO APRIL 15th. The rest of the year, Nathalie welcomes you for a French immersion residential homestay in the Loiret, South of Paris.
As I stated before, since I am not a French teacher, guests coming to practice their French in immersion should already be conversant in French. I can, however, speak English with your traveling companions.
Getting To My House
The closest TGV train station is Avignon (45 minute drive). There are a lot of car rental services at the the station. If you prefer, you can take a local train (TER) to Carpentras, where I will pick you up.
Access to Avignon is very easy from Paris (travel time : 3:00) or Marseille (travel time : 1:00). Coming from the UK (London or Southampton), there are also direct flights to Avignon Airport.
There are several restaurants and shops in Malaucène, which means you don’t need to rent a car, except if you want to be more independent and visit the area on your own.
Should you not rent a car, I’ll be happy to drive you around, but I will have to ask for a 50 Euros gas fee (a full tank), maybe more should we decide on doing several longer excursions.
There is wifi reception throughout the house.
Smoking isn’t possible in the house, but it is allowed in the garden.
I love food, and and I love cooking. Preferably with local and seasonal products, mainly bought in the organic farm close to the village. I can cook French traditional dishes such as boeuf-bourguignon, soupe à l’oignon or pot-au-feu, as well as exotic dishes.
I must confess that I am not a specialist in diet cuisine! I do not know how to cook neither vegan nor dairy free, but I can learn if you teach me.
I have a cat, and sadly, he is not very friendly with other pets…
Therefore, it is not recommended to come with your yours… :-(
A typical 1 week (7 days, 6 night) immersion includes but is not limited to:
- Accommodation in your own bungalow with a private bathroom.
- Two meals a day with me: French breakfast, 3 courses lunch or dinner, with wine or beer.
- Four accompanied French practice excursions or cultural activities – eg. a visit to Vaison-la-Romaine, a walk on the Mont Ventoux, a visit to a soap factory, a local market, – according to your interests (museums entry fees not included). During these excursions, we will speak French together.
I can be more or less present, spend a lot of time with you chatting away in French, or give you more personal space. Before your arrival, we’ll discuss how you imagine your immersion stay and I’ll give you plenty of additional info on what is available around here. I will happily adapt to special requests. Just let me know.
The price with these options is 1200 Euros for one person.
- For one additional guest (sharing the same room), the price per week is €210 in half board with shared excursions.
If you are a foodie like me, why not combine French cooking classes and French immersion?
If you choose this option, the focus of your stay will be food and gastronomy. You’ll stay in my house, sharing your day with me and practicing your French as described above, but also enjoy 3 cooking classes (that’s 12 hours of guided French practice).
