Learn French in France – Your Immersion Homestay Program in Pays Basque
Meet Your French Teacher and Hosts
Bonjour, my name is Evelyne. Welcome to my home.
I have been teaching French in immersion for 10 years and I love it. I was one of the first teachers to join the French Today immersion program: I’ve hosted hundreds of students over the years, each time with the same pleasure.
When you come for a French immersion homestay with me, you will spend a minimum of 5 hours in guided French communication per day. My English is conversant, but far from excellent… I can make myself understood if necessary but I use it as little as possible: that’s why I prefer teaching student who already know some French, not total beginners.
I am a people person, and on top of the 2 hours of structured French lessons in the mornings, I’ll include you in my everyday activities as much as possible: we’ll cook and watch TV together, I’ll take you to the market, you’ll meet my friends and family. Just like having a French friend who you are visiting :-)
My husband Jean-Pierre is newly retired, and he will be a big part of your immersion experience as well. Our 3 children (33, 30 and 27) do not live with us anymore, but they often come to visit or share a meal with us.
Another small resident … A nice little cat from the neighborhood who decided to live with us for a few years. She is often outside, but she is also very curious and will not fail to greet you from time to time.
“My two weeks in Bayonne was more than a language course; it was deep immersion in French culture. I learned so much about French history, customs and current events. This was an experience that I will never forget.”
Our House in Pays-Basque, France
We live in Anglet which is a safe seaside town located between Bayonne and Biarritz in the Pays-Basque region of France. Anglet has lots of nice restaurants, cafés, and all the convenience stores and lovely little French boutiques.
It’s not typically a tourist destination, so people will be happy to meet you and help you practice your French. You may even learn a couple of words in Basque, the other local language!
Public transportation is close, convenient, easy to use and cheap. Many of my students don’t rent a car and just hop on the public transports during their free time.
We live in a quiet, very safe residential neighborhood. Our house is modern and comfortable.
The main room is a large open space with a dining room and living room area, where we often watch TV at night.
The garden is rather large and private and we spend quite a lot of time in it. The weather in Pays-Basque being typically mild, we often eat outside, or enjoy a drink or tea, read under the shade of a tree, or just relax in the sun. My students often do their homework on the garden table.
Your Room and Private Bathroom
Your room is located on the second floor (one floor up) and is very private and quiet. It has a big window and a balcony overlooking the garden. There is a queen size bed, a dresser, and a large desk. Wifi is available.
You will also enjoy a modern private bathroom with a large shower.
Learn French In The Pays-Basque Region In France
Featuring a very different kind of architecture, breathtaking nature, superbe ocean beaches and its very own culture, the French Pays-Basque will show you yet another face of France. Our house is ideally located to explore all that this incredible region has to offer.
Our town, Anglet is a residential seaside town with 5 kilometers or sandy beaches. This region is known for surfing and other water activities and there is a lot to do around if you are sporty: sailing, surfing, and all the water activities but also riding, hiking, golfing…
The nearby city of Bayonne is ancient and historic, full of authentic restaurants and lovely shops.
Biarritz is a pretty seaside resort, nicknamed “beach of kings”. It’s home to many surfing competitions and is quite hip. There are many high-end stores.
There are also many typical medieval Basque villages around: Aïnhoa, Sare… and the lovely Espelette, world-renowned for its red pepper.
You can easily get to Saint-Jean Pied de Port and Spain, or a bit farther Bordeaux, Pau, Lourdes, even Bilbao (Spain)…
Practical Info About Your French Immersion Residential Course
Because I don’t use English during my classes, my program is more effective for students who already speak some French, so advanced beginners and above (A2 and above).
Getting To Our House
The TGV goes to Biarritz from Paris (about 5 hours), and there is also an airport with direct flights from Paris Orly and Charles-de-Gaulle (about 1h). If you choose to not rent a car, we’ll pick you up in Biarritz.
It’s easy to visit the region using public transportation, but you can easily rent a car if you’d like to. Parking is usually not an issue.
There is wifi through the house.
We don’t smoke.
Like many French people, meals at home are a moment of conviviality and conversations as well as the opportunity to discover and enjoy the local French cuisine! We love good food, and one of my favorite sayings is « Bien manger, c’est le début du bonheur ! »
I could cook vegetarian under your guidance, but it would be a real challenge for me to cook vegan.
We have one cat who is mostly outside. We’ll be happy to welcome your quiet, friendly and well-trained pet as far as it won’t bother our cat.
A typical 1 week (7 days, 6 night) immersion includes but is not limited to:
All expenses are included except gasoline, museum entry fees, outside lunches during excursions or unplanned activities you wish to add to the program.
I’m very flexible and will be happy to arrange whatever you’d like, so just let me know if there are other things you are interested in.
- 2 hours x 5 days of private lessons, in the mornings
- Accommodation in a private bedroom with wifi, private shower room (see pictures above)
- Morning breakfasts with comments on current events or some topics necessary for a better understanding
- Lunch and dinner with my husband and me (maybe other family members, or friends).
- 2 afternoons a week: cultural or touristic tours in the area, with me or some French professional, customizable according to your own interests
- Preferred arrival on Sunday and departure on Saturday.
The price with these options is 1400 Euros for one person.
I also have a guest room so I am able to accommodate two people traveling together in two different rooms. I can organize French lessons for everybody or just for one person.
For the additional guest, the price per week is:
- Euros 315 in full board, without lessons or excursions,
- Euros 805 in full board with shared lessons and excursions.
Jean-Pierre and I are really looking forward to meeting you.
“Thank you Evelyne for the wonderful experience, the excellent cuisine, the interesting excursions and the many laughs we enjoyed at mealtimes with my efforts in communicating in French.”

Vera and Frank
Vera insisted that we needed at least a week’s intensive French while Frank was somewhat reticent. After all, what would it be like living in someone’s house for a week and being unable to escape daily scrutiny of one’s grammatical deficiencies? Just awful! But Vera prevailed and we found o… Read more
