Geneviève – Sara review
Stayed in May 2019
I highly recommend a French immersion with Genevieve if you want to improve your French in a real-world setting.
I have been taking weekly French lessons for a few years and also listening to podcasts and doing apps on my own to improve my oral understanding, but was lacking in daily conversation competence. It can be hard to practice French in France unless you are in a retail or restaurant situation – both of which can be intimidating. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you don’t know until you are in a conversation and trying to express yourself a particular way or relay certain information.
During my week with Geneviève, from the time she met me at the train station to our last evening dinner together, my confidence in French conversation greatly improved.
I felt comfortable with her right off the bat. She is warm and accepting. I never felt judged or silly for making mistakes.
Three hours of French in the morning with grammar and conversation work is the perfect amount of time to improve some of the things you might be struggling with in a one-on-one setting. The rest of the time – the non “school” time – was spent touring around the Cote d’Azur either on my own or with Geneviève as a knowledgeable guide. She gave me great recommendations for things to do in the area according to my interests and was also very open to coming with me.
My favorite day was when we went to the Rothschild Villa and then to a secret little beach on Cap-Ferrat. I say “secret” because there is no way I would have found it on my own.
Genevieve is so easy talk with and makes you feel comfortable which makes the French lessons, conversation, and excursions very enjoyable. It’s easy to see that hosting people interested in improving the French is not a job for Geneviève, but it’s a passion and she genuinely connects with her students on a personal level.
The morning I left the Nice Airport, there was an older French lady that couldn’t figure out the whole checkin process. She didn’t speak English and I was able to help her get her bags checked and boarding pass and we continued to converse until we boarded the flight. In my eyes, that is evidence of a successful week.
I can’t wait to return with my husband and explore more of this beautiful part of France while continuing to improve my French.
