But don't misunderstand me : the area has also plenty of other experiences to offer! Fans of medieval cities with atmosphere, sports practitioners and art lovers (the city of Limoges and its world famous porcelaine is close) won’t be disappointed.

Meet Nicole - your French tutor, language buddy & host In France

Bonjour! My name is Nicole. I am a newcomer in French Today’s network but an experienced teacher of French as a Foreign Language: I’ve taught in universities in China (Beijing 2 years) and Japan (7 years) and also at Hong Kong’s Alliance Française (2 years). Back in Paris I’ve taught in various design schools, in charge of foreign students. I left Paris in 2019 to complete the renovation of the family house and develop this immersion program - Meilhards is my hometown. I am 63 but people say I’m an energetic and lively person. I practice nordic walk and yoga. I’m curious about many fields and I’m sure we’ll find a lot to talk about. I’ll be the sole occupant (besides the cat) of the house with you. You have any question during the stay? I live downstairs so contacting me is very easy.

You would like to prepare your immersion stay with some revision sessions? I also give online private classes. Why dont you have a try?

Typical French Immersion Homestay Program

A Typical 1 Week (7 Days, 6 Night) Immersion Includes But Is Not Limited To:

Accomodations in a Double Suite, 15 Hours of Teaching, 3 Excursions, Half Board.

  • Morning:French breakfast can be shared with me downstairs or taken in your suite. Then 3 hours French Class (9-12) in the study room or 2 hours in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon: you decide.
  • Lunch is taken together (good opportunity to practice!)
  • Afternoon:3 accompanied excursions – eg. a tour of the medieval city of Uzerche, a walk by the countryside, a local market, a visit to Brive (very much south spirit) or Limoges (porcelaine museum but not only) – according to your interests. During these excursions, we will speak French together (except if you prefer to switch to English).
  • Diner : you have access to the fully equiped kitchen. I'll gladly give you tips if you want to experience some french cooking. And, if my meal suits you, you are welcome to pick in my dish...
  • Evening : cultural activities if available. Or, if you prefer, you can join me watching some TV. (Remember: I live downstairs).

Preferred arrival on Sunday, departure on Saturday but I'm flexible. The Price With These Options Is 1350 Euros For One Person (entry fees, if any, are not included).

Additional Guests:

For one additional guest (sharing the same room), the price per week is :

  • € 350 in half board with shared excursions (entry fees, if any, are not included)
  • € 750 for half board with shared lessons and excursions (entry fees, if any, are not included)

Transportation:

As the house is in a hamlet, renting a vehicle would keep you more independent. However, for those who don't dispose of a car, on days without excursions, I usually offer a ride to the railway station or the bus stop if they want to visit a particular place. Sometimes drop them off at nearby lake for swimming if they wish... Or by the end of the afternoon, you are welcome to join me shopping in a local market or have a drink on a terrasse of some "petit café".

My Teaching Approach :

Whatever your French level is, I dont’ teach following a textbook: you’ll benefit from tailor made lessons. I’m used to teach 100% in French - making probably a lot of faces! - but I can explain grammar rules in English if necessary. Last point: I'd like to add that living abroad for years and having myself struggled with learning foreign languages made me a patient person.

Diets

As I grow my own vegetables, in summer many products come from my garden, the rest from local shops. I like cooking traditional dishes and my friends praise my desserts.

Getting To My House

If you are coming from Paris by train: you must leave from « Gare d’Austerlitz » and the arrival station is called « Uzerche ». There are direct trains every day. I'll pick you up from the station.

Learn French In France – Your French immersion Program in Meilhards, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

My region offers many possibilities to appreciate the arts but also nature. It is known for the quality of its products: "pommes de Corrèze", "Viande du Limousin" - you might have read these inscriptions in Parisian shops? Corrèze and Limousin are proud to have kept their traditional know-how.

The most important city in the area is Limoges - 60km away from my house - one of the 4 cities in France which has joined the Unesco "Creative Cities" network (in 2017, Crafts section). You have certainly heard of Limoges porcelain? Porcelain museums or fabrics are worth a visit. The town of Uzerche, closer to your accommodation, is a medieval town known for the beauty of its architecture. And of course there are many other interesting places: small markets, artisans workshops... The blog on my website will give you more information - check the « immersion » section.

In addition to lessons, coming to Corrèze is definitely an opportunity to disconnect from urban lifestyle: walking in nature, painting, taking pictures. The house is located in "Pays de la Vézère" whose landscapes are renowned for being particularly varied.

Your French Immersion Homestay Accommodations in Meilhards, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The house has been recently fully renovated and designed to suit the guests. In the ground level you'll have access to the kitchen and the living room (a large and sunny open floor) a yard and 2 terrasses. Lessons also take place here.

You will be the sole occupant of the first floor. The sunny suite includes an 20 square meters bedroom (double bed with confortable mattress), 2 wardrobes for storage, an armchair. You also have a desk, a second armchair in your private lounge and a bookshelf full of recent cooking, gardening, fashion, art magazines. You have access to a small fridge to keep beverage or food + a personal coffee/tea maker, with of course a set of tea bags, cups... If you come with a child, an extra bed (futon type) can be added here. Your private shower room (including a WC of course) is located next to your room. Pets are welcomed. I have a cat (Socquettes), who keeps away from the guests.

A final word about this immersion programme  ?

Alongside the lessons given by an experienced French Teacher and the freshly renovated house, couples and guests who travel alone will be welcome to socialise if they wish beyond the teaching hours. I consider my students as friends. Of course, your own suite on the first floor offers total privacy and the two garden terraces offer quality outdoor space to relax and unwind. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Nicole.

In August 2022 I spent 2 weeks in the region of Limousin in the French Immersion Program « Chez Nicole ». It was a wonderful experience that exceeded my expectations. Nicole is a highly educated professor with great knowledge of history and arts. She is organized, attentive and patient. She uses different strategies (exercices of course but also videos, role-playing…) to accommodate the student level as well as incorporate his interests into conversations and lessons.

The house is very pretty with a nice garden. The room for the student is beautiful, clean and confortable.

I loved the opportunity of living in the French Campaign. Limousin is a region with beautiful nature. Il is peaceful and filled with history. Corrèze is particularly special to me with its pretty villages and great farms. That brings to mind the delicious meals Nicole prepares: well-balanced and with fresh products.

Merci beaucoup Nicole.

Sarah from Sydney (2 week immersion stay)

inoubliable. Moi, j’ai déjà réservé pour 2023!

Kim (from California)

I stayed with Nicole from « Le Français juste pour vous » for a week in June, and the experience exceeded even my always-high expectations.  Nicole was waiting for me when I arrived at the Mairie d’Uzerche, after my BlaBlaCar ride. I was instantly comfortable with her, and we chatted non-stop during the ride. The lessons began immediately, and before we had even arrived at her charming home in the countryside, I was already changing my speech patterns. The house was spotless but homey, and my upstairs space was private, organized, and comfortable. The bathroom facilities were perfect. I lacked nothing.  On top of that, the food was excellent, and Nicole went out of her way to prepare different foods that I casually mentioned I liked. With her attentiveness, there was nothing to distract me from my goal of learning to speak French!

And learn French I did. We worked every morning for three hours in a formal setting. Nicole had planned a week’s worth of lessons, but as soon as she realized my French had improved during the two months I had been in France, she reorganized her entire agenda. I was treated to very specific, level appropriate lessons, not only during the three hours of formal instruction, but virtually all-day long! We had excursions, spoke with other people in the « hameau, » watched television together, and talked about life—all in French, all the time! She was patient, kind, and encouraging without lowering her standards.  I left with a folder full of completed work, notes, and a grand feeling of confidence. You can’t go wrong with Nicole for a French Homestay. Her intention is to make your stay unforgettable on every level. I can guarantee that she succeeded with me!

Cordialement,  Kim

Nicole (living in Occitanie, France) Immersion stay

If you are serious about improving your french, spend at least one week with Nicole and it will exceed your expectations. The experience was fully immersive and it was a perfect mix of lessons and daily life living in France. Nicole will build on what you know already and incorporate your interests into everyday conversations as well as her lesson plans. Each day was custom made to me and my level.

The cherry on top is her wonderful home in a beautiful part of France. My bedroom was more like a suite and all the comforts of home were provided.

Learning a language as an adult should be an engaging process, with goals to aim for but as well enjoying a laugh and using the language naturally. You will find this with Nicole and I can not recommend the whole experience highly enough and I look forward to returning.

Sheree (from California) : Immersion for DELF

Sheree.

Suomi (New York / Tokyo) : Immersion Stay

Sandy and Phil (Canada): Online courses

My wife and I are learning French as we wish to spend part of our time in France when we retire.  We found Nicole when researching potential immersion home-stays, and decided to start video classes instead, while there are so many travel restrictions in place.

Nicole is an excellent teacher and we are really improving our French thanks to her lessons.  Initially she assessed our current level of French so she could tailor the lessons to match our level.  Although we had some high-school french from a long time ago, we were very much beginners. She uses the “Alter Ego” textbook, along with the companion workbook.  Then we each have a weekly one hour video session with Nicole to go over the lesson for the week.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to practice listening to spoken French and speaking French ourselves, as well as learning grammar and vocabulary.

The conversations with Nicole are really enjoyable.  She’s a very patient teacher and can clearly explain the concepts that cause us difficulty, as well as give us details on how French is spoken in real life as opposed to textbook French.  For both of us, our spoken French has improved tremendously in the few short months since we began working with Nicole. Although Nicole is fluent in English, we quickly found we could converse mostly in French, after just a few classes.  Being able to speak French in a ‘safe’ place has increased our confidence a lot – we are no longer hesitant to speak French, as we were before. We enjoy our weekly lessons, and having email discussions with Nicole in between – she is now a friend as well as our tutor. We are really looking forward to a stay at her place in the future so we can meet her in person!

Sarah (Australia) Online Classes

Connie (from San Diego): 2 weeks Immersion Stay

I have been trying to learn French for the past three years.  I knew something was missing as I hadn’t been able to speak and understand even simple phrases in French.  I had the pleasure of meeting friendly French people, some have become my friends.  I love traveling in France and hope I can speak the language while being in France.

Nicole under-promised and over-delivered her French learning immersion program in her hometown, Meilhards in Corrèze region.  I had the great opportunity to learn from her for two weeks.  I wish I could stay longer.  She was well-prepared before my arrival including taking some time to record and write down an interview of a perfumer because I am passionate about perfumes and she also got perfumery books from her local library for me to read.

The name of her website is Le Français juste pour vous (French just for you) and she offers a unique bespoke learning experience. She understands each student is different, therefore, she prepares for the learning course for students individually.  I really appreciated what she does to help people like me to learn French.

Nicole is a highly educated professor with many years of teaching experience in Asia and her homeland France and she does it with an incomparable passion.   She answered my questions instantly and it’s so easy and clear for me to follow.

A side note: It’s such a rejuvenating experience to stay in the countryside in France. The living/staying experience was much better than I expected with the home cooked (French) meals by her every day. The bedroom, bathroom and study room I had stayed in her house made me feel like staying in a 5 star hotel.  It’s an unforgettable experience!

Merci beaucoup à Nicole!  Connie
