Meet Léa - your French language buddy & host In France
Bonjour, et bienvenue !
I’m Léa, it’s a pleasure for me and my family to welcome you.
I’m a French woman in my thirties, native from the west of France. I was always attracted by cultural exchange and that’s what lead me to live in Ireland, England, Belgium, Brazil and Canada (that’s also the reason why I speak English fluently).
Although unlike the other French Today’s hosts I’m not a certified teacher and don’t offer formal French lessons, I’ve helped many people with their French before and even worked as a French tutor for a while. So I’m confident I’ll be able to help you practice and improve your French in the context of our daily activities and tours.
To best take advantage of this immersion program, it’s better if you are already conversant in French (level B1 or higher). I’ll adapt my speaking to your French level: using simpler or more challenging constructions, tenses and expressions depending on what works for you.
We’re a family of three: my husband David who is crazy about golf and soccer, is also a very good chef ; his teenage son Ugo lives with us part time and loves nature and sport. A character trait that is common to the three of us: we are food lovers and would love to share our passion for French food and wine with you. I also worked in the wine industry previous to our French immersion venture.
In our free time, we’re pretty laid back. We enjoy playing board games, walking by the river or biking in the forest and collecting wild mushrooms. In summer time we spend quite a lot of time enjoying our large private swimming pool.

As I stated before, since I’m not a French teacher, guests coming to practice their French in immersion should already be conversant in French. I can, however, speak English with your traveling companions.
Getting To My House
The nearest international airport is Bordeaux. You can then easily hop on the shuttle (every 15 min) to the train station, then take a train to Périgueux where we’ll be waiting for you.
Car Rental
As we live on a hill overlooking the city of Périgueux, if you wish to be independent we recommend you rent a car. Public transportation is down the hill (10 minutes walk). Parking is not a problem.
Wifi
There is wifi reception throughout the house.
Smoking
Smoking isn’t possible in the house, but it’s allowed in the garden.
Diets
We like to cook with regional quality fresh food. We are happy to adapt to your taste and also discover new diets.
Pets
We’re sorry we cannot welcome your pets. We have two forest pigeons: Roe deer and Palombes, a cat, and Eliot, the hamlet dog, often hangs out in our yard.
Pool
The pool is surrounded by a fence. Please understand that if you do come with children, it will be your responsibility to watch them carefully.
A Typical 1 Week (7 Days, 6 Night) Immersion Includes But Is Not Limited To:
- Accommodation in your own private studio with a private bathroom.
- Two meals a day with me: French breakfast and usually 3 courses lunch.
- Three accompanied French practice excursions or cultural activities – eg. a tour of Périgueux, a walk by the river, a wine or food tasting, a local market, – according to your interests (entry fees if any are not included). During these excursions, we will speak French together.
- Preferred arrival on Sunday, departure on Saturday.
I can be more or less present, spend a lot of time with you chatting away in French, or give you more personal space. Before your arrival, we’ll discuss how you imagine your immersion stay and I’ll give you plenty of additional info on what is available around here. I will happily adapt to special requests. Just let me know.

Learn French In France – Your French immersion Program in Périgueux
One hour and a half away from Bordeaux, the Dordogne valley offers a large panel of activities. Within a one-hour drive radius of our house, you’ll go from medieval towns to flat countryside with crops, to hilly woods with medieval castles, to lakes and rivers where you can enjoy a kayaking. The «Vézère Valley» is well known for its exceptional prehistoric sites and painting caves like «Lascaux».
If you are a foodie like us, the region is full of producers of truffles, nuts, strawberries, wine, caviar, duck breast and foie gras who open their doors for tasting. There’s also a huge diversity of architecture in our region! You’ll find white, grey, beige, yellow even red stones so the houses look quite different from Sarlat (built with yellow stones) to Collonges La Rouge (built with red and white stones).
If you’re more adventurous, there are also numerous activities such as canoe tour, hiking or climbing.
Your French Immersion Homestay Accommodations in Périgueux
We live in a large country house with a beautiful view over the valley.
The house is located on a hill that overlooks the medieval city of Périgueux. It was part of an old castle; the house was built in 1786 and David spent the last 15 years renovating it so it’s now very comfortable. We can still enjoy the castle’s ruins view from our windows.
“Our” hill is like a small community: there are five families and we often gather for birthdays and other celebrations. In the middle of our hamlet, we all maintain and share a vegetable garden.
Even though it feels we are in the countryside, our house is only at a 5 minutes drive from a large mall and a 10 minutes drive from the historic heart of the city. Public transportation is available down the hill. And should you or your companion enjoy playing golf, there’s a 18 holes golf course just down the hill!
Your Private Suite In Dordogne
The whole ground level floor facing the pool is dedicated to our students: you’ll have direct access to your space from the terrace.
Your private suite includes a sunny living room, a large bedroom with a double size bed, an attached shower room and a separate toilet. The living room has a comfortable pull out sofa bed, a small table, a desk and a pinball machine (we say “un flipper” in French!)
The gourmet equipped kitchen (we have a great coffee machine and a chef’s stove) and dining room are shared with us and directly accessible from your living room or the large terrasse.
In the summertime, we’ll all enjoy the deck, the garden and our large in-ground swimming pool. We love barbecuing under the pergola and I often take a quick nap or read a book in the outdoor sofas as the boys play table-tennis in the garden.
