Mothers Day Poem in French – Video and French Vocabulary

Leyla By Leyla on May 21, 2019

Today is Mothers Day in France, and this is the French poem I learnt in school and told my Mom :-)

“La fĂȘte des mĂšres” in France is either the last Sunday of May or the first Sunday of June. French children celebrate it pretty much like in the rest of the world: a poem, a drawing, a pasta necklace. Adult children will give their mom a gift or at least a bouquet of flowers.

Here is the poem Leyla told me this year. I also had a drawing and “un petit-dĂ©jeuner au lit” (breakfast in bed, Leyla’s speciality).

1 – Easy Bilingual French English Mother’s Day Poem

Click below to see my video.

J’ai cherchĂ© dans les poĂšmes
Comment dire “je t’aime”.
J’ai trouvĂ© des mots savants
Bien trop longs pour mes cinq ans !
Alors, j’ai cherchĂ© ailleurs,
Et j’ai trouvĂ© dans mon coeur,
Les mots que tu m’as appris
Quand j’Ă©tais encore petite.
Maman, je t’aime, grand comme ça !
Je le dis avec mes bras….

3 – Translation of the French Mother’s day Poem

I looked in the poems
How to say ” I love you ” .
I found big words
Too long for my five years!
So I looked elsewhere ,
And I found in my heart,
The words you taught me
When I was still small .
Mom, I love you , big like that!
I say it with my arms ….
