A Little Village in Paris

When your see these green cobbled streets, it’s difficult to believe you are in Paris! However, it is the artist’s Paris that is unveiled. At the end of the street Courtot, the Montmartre museum will make you discover the works of Toulouse-Lautrec, Modigliani, Utrillo and many other artists. There is even a room specially dedicated to the French cancan.

Montmartre’s Wine Harvest

photo2

Every year, the grape harvest of Montmartre’s vines (which date from the XIIth century) takes place the second weekend of October. It is the time to attend parades of costumed wine growers that graciously hand out glasses of wine to the crowd.

In front of the vines, discover the famous cabaret “Au Lapin Agile” (Agile rabbit) where unknown writers, musicians, painter, sculptors were seeing each other regularly. These unknown artists were: Picasso, Modigliani, Utrillo, Guillaume Apollinaire and many other! The cabaret is still open to the public and can be a good idea for a night outing.

Painters on Place du Tertre in Montmartre

place

If you go up this street and turn to left, you will find yourselves “Place du Tertre” with her painters: attention, it’s a very touristic place!

What the painters sell are authentic paintings which is not always the case of the paintings sold in the shops (reproductions made in China). Therefore the painters have decided to create a “Label Montmartre” to fight against fakes.

Meaning of The French Expression “à la bonne franquette”

la-bonne-franquette

“A la bonne franquette”: this expression which means: without fancy, simply, would have appeared in opposition to the 16th century expression “à la française” which meant “luxuriously” with a lot of fuss! When we invite you and tell you that it’s “à la bonne franquette” don’t expect to find silverware on the table! No, it will be in all simplicity. And as Epicurus said in his letter to MĂ©nĂ©cĂ©e:” the simple flavours bring as many pleasure as a regime of abundance”

Montmartre and Amélie

If you want to become immersed in this Montmartre atmosphere, you can have fun watching this lovely Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s movie. Walking routes are even organised to discover the places where the film was shot â€“ I often take my French immersion students to Montmartre, and we always have an awesome time.

Bonne visite Ă  tous.

Enjoy your visit!
