1 – Biking in Switzerland

Bonjour !

Hi! My name is StĂ©phanie. During my French immersion stay at my teacher’s Raymonde in Switzerland, we went on a little outing by bicycle.  Where I live, I ride my bicycle every day so this excursion was ideal for me.

That day, the weather was gorgeous.  After breakfast, we climbed on our bikes and traveled on little country roads.  There were lots of cows grazing peacefully in the fields.  There were also vineyards and fields of grains as far as the eye could see. And also beautiful fields of sunflowers  The air is very pure in the region, reminding me of my childhood when I went on weekend bike rides with my parents.

2 – Visiting Nyon

After 20 minutes, the Nyon castle, which dates back to the 12th century, appeared in the distance.  We crossed the courtyard by bike and arrived at a beautiful promontory which dominates the old town, the lake, and the Alps.  At the castle, one can visit a beautiful 18th-century porcelain collection manufactured in Nyon.  But it was too beautiful outside to stay inside!

Next, we continued our visit in the direction of the Esplanade of the Chestnuts where you can find three Roman columns showcasing the times when Nyon was a colony founded by Julius Cesar (between 45 and 27 years before Jesus Christ).  In fact, you can find a statue of Julius Cesar next to the Roman Museum that is worth visiting.

We continued our visit through the little-paved alleys up until the lake.  It was time to take a little break for an aperitif and contemplate the view over the LĂ©man Lake with a glass of white wine from Switzerland.  All of this made us hungry.

3 – Fishermen Village Near Nyon Switzerland

We still had one last thing to discover – the little fishermen village.  We crossed a picturesque spot surrounded by fishing materials and knocked on the door of a tiny fishing cabin.  There, we bought some really fresh perch fillets, it’s the region’s specialty.

It was time to return home to prepare the meal.  Raymonde and I cooked the perch fillets together and really enjoyed them.

I will never forget this beautiful outing and my stay with Raymonde and her family.
