Le village D’Eze – French Story & Translation & Video

Author: Geneviève

Virtual tour of the village of Eze on the French riviera. Practice your French with this free French story with hide and reveal English translation + video.

Eze is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean. Although there is so much to do in Nice, I recommend my French immersion students to visit Eze if they can and they all love it.

Today, I invite you to practice your French with my story. Use the blue floating button to hide or reveal the English translation.

story-english-translationOn the shores of the French Riviera stand, high above the Mediterranean sea, a few villages planted in the rock like eagle nests. These villages are testimony to a time when the shores were targeted by looters and pirates coming from the sea.  From their fortified villages, the locals could keep an eye on the sea, sound the alarm and warn people to take refuge in case of real danger.

2 – The Gorgeous Village of Eze

Eze village is the one I am particularly fond of. Although very touristic, it is one of the jewels of our region. Located on the Moyenne Corniche between Nice and Menton, Eze offers a breathtaking and panoramic view to visitors. Narrow stone streets, vaulted passages and shaded squares make the village look like a medieval stage set.

The two 14th Century guard towers, “La Poterne“,  the gate and the double walled doors, “La Canonnerie” are all now classified as historical monuments. At the top of the village, you’ll discover a botanical garden with an impressive collection of cacti and succulents. The sea view is simply stunning. On special occasions, there are entertaining birds of prey shows which are extremely original.

3 – A Great Sea Walk

A little extra for the more sport-oriented among you: a narrow path leads from the village down to the sea, bordered by lush banana trees, date palms, orange and lemon trees. It’s called “The Nietzsche path”, and is truly a feast for the eyes. Watch out though! Make sure you wear appropriate footwear otherwise the walk can turn into a nightmare!

4 – Discover the Village of Eze – Video

This summer I (camille) went to Eze – so I thought of this article and shot a little video: enjoy!

Can You Understand Today’s Spoken French?

It’s not just slang. The French everybody speaks in France today is NOT the overly enunciated, extremely formal French usually taught to foreigners.
