If you are not good with numbers — use digits
Numbers are always difficult. They are hard to say and understand, and can lead to major miscommunications.
It is worth practicing numbers a lot, especially if you're going to do a lot of shopping in Paris.  If you are not sure how to say a big number, just say the digits: "I'm looking for the train three-hundred ninety-six" can be, simply, "Je cherche le train trois neuf six." Everybody understands that. Carrying a small notebook in your pocket can also be useful to write numbers down, especially when bargaining for a better price in an open market.
